Swirl Marks

What is the best way to rid or at least reduce the appearance of swirl marks on a black car?

Well the best way is to certainly purchase a Porter Cable 7424 and some polishing pads and polishes to remove swirls.

Or take it to someone that does exterior detailing and have them do it for you if you don't have the time/money/patience/desire to invest and do it yourself.

That's definitely another option but it seemed like the OP wanted to do it himself.

You can usually equip yourself for a couple years (at least)with what it would cost to have someone do it for you.....
My vote goes for a PC and polishes, and an accompanyment of MF's.....

Specifically, what polishes do you guys recommend? I just got a UDM for Christmas and will be breaking it out in the next few weeks. Prior to this, I've only polished cars by hand and my moms black SUV has heavy swirls. My TSX has very light swirls but nonetheless, they're there... Suggestions?

Well you'll need a set of pads and a few polishes. I use a ton of polishes myself. Patrick should have what you're looking for.

if you dont have the money to invest in doing it yourself, then you sure as hell dont have the money to pay someone to do it...a full correction job is atleast 400 bucks if not more...

I think I'll look to invest in some polishing tools. Is the PC 2424 the best for a novice?

It's actually the PC 7424, just so you're aware.

Um, it depends... with the right mindset and patience, you too could do jobs as good as us. If you're not up to the task, I'm sure one of us could refer you to a quality detailer in your area.

Plus, it makes you feel a million times better knowing you did it yourself. Anyone see that ArmorAll commercial w/ Tony Stewart? It's the one where he details his Vette and takes it to a convenience store and while walking back to his car he stops and stares at it for hours. I know that's how I feel after I've spent a day detailing the car
