Follow up with a finishing polish and a light polishing/finishing pad.

Its not the end of the world. What type of machine were you using? What pads do you have avaiable ? And lastly, what products do you have?

Ok, sounds like a rotary. Your going to need some foam pads for sure. Any follow up by hand isnt going to help ya either.....This may require a couple polishing steps if you ere using a wool pad also...

you need to use a less abrasive pad, perhaps an orange light cutting or a white pad. also, make sure you work the polish in, for the swirls you now have are caused by a combination of a too abrasive polish/pad and not letting the product break down. the products react with heat, so you should plan to work on EVERY section for at least 6-8 minutes, depending on the particular product, of course.

furthermore, you need to be careful if you doing the rotary method, it creates a lot of heat and can cause major problems. furthermore, work the polish in at 5-6k rpms with light pressure (5lbs) and move slowly in overlapping, side to side and up and down motions. toward the end of that particular session, bump the speed down and make the movement faster. this will reduce any micromarring (scratches created by the polish) that may have occurred.

take this information as a recommendation. i do this as a living and since i cant be there, theres only so much i can provide.

dont be afraid to ask any and all questions, good luck and post some pics!

be careful with the buffer that you do have, they are dangerous. you can get the pads from autogeek.net, they have every possible pad imaginable and for good prices. the orange light cutting pad is a level of abrasiveness for a pad. the white pad is a finishing pad with VERY little cut to it, used for polishing.

5000 RPM's with a rotary? Try more like the 800-1200 range! Wool will mar anything. A rotary is not anything one should "learn" with....I would drop 100 bucks and get a PC. Learn about techniques and characteristics (products) then you can eventually warm up to a rotary......

Porter Cable. It's a brand of tools. I think most members go with the 7424 model.

A little bit of time isnt going to hurt anything. Until you can get serious with car care (PC), just keep it protected with a sealant or nuba, sealant preferrably.
Theres nothing wrong with doing it by hand, your just not going to be able to accomplish a real thorough job.

A PC will be very advantageous to your goal! There just buffer trails, a little light polish or light compound and appropriate pad will get ya out of there, no sweat!

First thing, wash and clay the car, its filthy. Next take some compund and get the marring out. Then follow up with a wash once more, then seal with wax.

I think for $40 more, this kit offers a little more flexibility because of a better pad selection and would be the better deal. Then you have the option of using any product of your choice.
