So, I get this call, from malibu.....
So I get this call from a woman in Malibu early in the week. She asks if I detail in Malibu and I say "sure", but Im 20 miles away. Well, I have never detailed in Malibu before, so I ask who referred me to her. She said she heard of me from somewhere in Beverly Hills. Well, I only have one client in BH, I gave her the name and she said no, it wasnt him/her. She didnt recall, so I gave up. But I'am always curious as to who had referred any new client. Thanks would be in order during their next detail. Anyway, I go ahead and ask the usual questions, what type of car, how old, what color, what condtion. She says shes making the appt for her boss (here we go). Again, I ask her to rate from 1-3, 3 being real bad. She says "Oh there clean, they just need to be freshened up a little." So I figure its a high dollar client, they live overlooking the Pacific, they should be in decent shape, right?
The pictures dont tell it all, thats for sure.......They have 2 two kids, and two dogs, both the RR and the Element are takin 25 miles to a Scratch and Dash, after dropping the kids off at school. I underestimated the job, underbid by about 25% for each car. But they both came out stellar, even though two days would not be enough time to make the necessary corrections by myself. The RR was the worse of the two, with severe marring from the nylon bristles at the scratch and dash. I explained to her that the next time she makes an appt (She mentioned monthly) I could start rejuvinating the paint. She said "it looks better then when I bought it!" The hard part was over, and with some proper maintenance, I could get the two of them back in shape. But for now, I gave them both a good wash, and cleaned the wheels/tires/trim/interiors (stains, dog hair, and mass sand) a little PC'ing on the hood of the RR with some Duragloss 105, then OCW (RR), FS UPPS (Element). Dang those Elements, although a pretty cool car, have a ton of plastic!! They also have this cool flooring, that if there was a drain plug, I swear you could just hose them down. They are the ultimate of ease to keep clean, but the place she had been taking them to, gummed up the interior with some sort of protectant, and need I mention the sand and dog hair, stuck to everything, and everywhere??
So, lesson learned, back to basics, never take anyones word about the condition of a car, period. This was 7.5 hrs of labor, for a light detailing.

agreed...excellent details!
i recently had a customer save me from a similar mess...i was doing a walkaround on their vehicle and asked if they wanted a full detail or only the exterior done...they said "oh no...the interior is REALLY clean...so no need".
i looked inside and it was hideous...VERY glad i didn't have to deal w/ that one. hehehe
