Shaved my emblems

I shaved my emblems off the back of my car yesterday, and it left pretty much the whole emblem letters behind it in sticky adhesive...I tried to pell it off, and scratch it off with my nails but it was just making a mess. What's the best stuff to use thats safe for the paint to remove this sticky stuff? I was going to use Goo-gone, but wasn't sure if there was a better choice for car paint?

thanks!

Use a steamer, saturate the adhesive, and get a clean rag and wipe it off. Your neighbor might have one.

Goo gone is good. You also might want to try WD 40. It really breaks down glue and it won't hurt your paint. I'd stiil clean it well afterward and re-seal it.

I did this yesterday, i used a hairdryer to heat up the leftover tape/sticky stuff, and used my fingernail to slowly peel it off. Took some patience, but i got it done pretty nicely. After that i washed the area with my normal car soap and water, as there is lots of fine dust left around where the letters were. Then for the left over bits of sticky, i just used some alcohol(99% is best, but any will work) on a cotton ball and rubbed the hell out of it. After that you could barely see where the letters were, there was a slight haze. Then i hit it up with a coat of wax, and it was gone, then i hit it with one more coat just for safe measure, i did just rub the paint with a whole bunch of alcohol anyways. Good luck!

Be careful not to use too strong of a cleaner or such an abrasive method to remove the residue. You don't want to create more work in the form of surface scratches that break the clear coat. I haven't debadged my TL, but I did my Maxima. I used a hairdryer to heat up the emblems. The residue I took slowly away in layers by using Griot's Garage Bug and Tar Remover and their Wheel Cleaner - all applied with a MF. Then, I clayed the area, used a good polish, paint cleaner and then sealed the area. Just go slow and be patient.

Are you referring to me? I haven't been able to do it (i still have the sticky crap showing) until they lift the water restriction in my town. We have a drought, so its like $500 fine if they see you washing your car, etc.

So as soon as I'm able to wash it, I'll remove the sticky, and post pics

After you used the goof off, did you wash it? Or can I just do it...Also I didnt use any hair dryer, I just took some floss behind the emblem and it came off with a few drags behind it, maybe cause the car is fairly new.

I just took mine off last week. Waited for the sun to heat up the car, dental flossed the letters off, peeled most of the sticky residue very carefully by hand and used goo be gone for the little that was left. There was a little bit of haze left over I tried soap and water which didn't work for me so I just went over it with some meguiar's scratch remover and it came right out.

Glue or sticky residu

The best way to remove all the glue or sticky residu on the paint without scratching it is probably the lighter fluid.

Put some lighter fluid on a soft towell and pass on the sticky areas, then you should see everything come off easily. Don't forget to wach your car after or only wach the area wich as some glue on.

Hope it helped you guys!

wow, so many methods...I did this yesterday to my ACURA and TSX emblems. First of all, I poured hot water to take off the emblems so the residue left behind was still damp. I just used my finger to rub the large chunks of tape off. You have to rub hard but it comes off. Once I got the majority of it off, I took rubbing alcohol to clean off the rest. I followed up with Meguires Scratch X and it looks super clean. HTH.

thank you! i've thought about it, and i've tried with a couple of tint kits & i just couldnt get it to work. i bought that nite shades spray tint too, and i havent really gotten a chance to use it. a friend of mine used it to tint his tails on his RSX & it looks really good. i may try it out...

found it...

this stuff isn't cheap. i've bought 2 regular tint kits off ebay, for like $18 each. i wonder what the quality difference is between the two. the kits i got off ebay were pre-cut template tail light tint films. but they werent made out of the same material as traditional tint. i dont know how to describe the film i got off ebay, compared to regular window tint, but it was definitely different from regular window tint. plus, i messed both of those up (got really big bubbles & shit) so i dont know if i want to spend $60+ on another tint kit.

oh, and their tint percentages are backwards. they're saying that 35% is darker than 20%. normally 20% is darker than 35%, because it only allows 20% of the light thru.

sorry bout the pic quality but right now this is all i have of the rear. All i did was poor some boiling hot water on the emblems, used some floss, and then used goo gone for the extra tape left over, yes there is a very very minimal amount of haze/tape left that cant be seen from the untrained eye, but it goes away over time. I think im def gonna try some meguires scratch x, got some of that laying around somewhere
