what an asshole, did you tell him not to smoke or did you think that was understood....

if it was just a one time thing, just leave the windows down in the garage for a few days, if its really cold in your area, it will take longer to get rid of it.....

i would also frebreeze the carpet and floormats....it will help it alittle...

Whenever you have the chance and weather permits keep the windows slightly open. It'll go away after a few days of that.

air it out when weather permits, if it's in the leather, I would also clean and treat the leather, if the smell is REALLY bad, you may want to clean your carpets and headliner as well, just hope it didn't get into your vents

Careful with the headliner cleaning though. I've seen multiple incidents where even mild chemicals have deteriorated the adhesive enough to where the headliner droops and eventually flaps in the wind when your windows are rolled down. Leather won't hold the smoke smell in very long in my experience but cleaning the carpets will def help.

Yes. Most auto parts stores will have a a/c renew/deoderizer type of product that you spray in to the intake vent below your windshield. Basically you turn your climate control on fresh air and cycle between hot and cold as well as different venting options with the fan on full blast while you spray the intake vent with this product. That should take care of most of the smell inside your ducts.

If it's really bad (which it likely isn't), you'd need to rent an ozone generator and run it.

An ozone generator...

Never heard of that...

I don't smoke cigs in my car () but the smell is still lingering...

+1

these ozone generators work very well in getting rid of any odor in your car, it works by breaking down the oxygen in the car and creating ozone, which has a very distinct smell in itself but can be eliminated easily with common car fragrance. the idea is to replace the "difficult to get rid of" smell with a "not so difficult to get rid of" smell. some people may tell you that its a health risk but thats only with industrial type generators. generators that are made specifically for vehicles will only produce enough to not be harmful to your respiratory system.

if this is done and you can still smell the cig odor you may have to replace the cabin air filter.

I bought an ozone grenade type thing from autogeek and have used it to get rid of pet odors and such out of cars. It says its for smoking scent as well.

In honesty I'd go to a detail shop and have them do it and have your friend give you his credit card and pay for it

All these are ways to get rid of smell...

I personally have used a vinegar soaked rag in a bowl (rag keeps product from spilling accidentaly). It helped but then the car smelled like vinagar

Next i sprinkled baking soda all over the carpet, left for a few days (maybe a week) then vacuum it out.

I used woolite mixed 1/20 parts water and wiped down all panels, headliners, removed items to clean behind them such as door panels, radio, glove box, etc.

Changed cabin filter, sprayed deodorizing kit in air vents as described above.

Cleaned leather seats with cleaner, then applied conditioner

left windows open when possible, and it took all these steps to rid the car of odors when we first bought it used.

had a mildewy/smokey/oily like body oils in the leather seats, but it has yet to return now after 8 months of ownership.

hope this helps anyone in the future

Don't need that stuff, just get this

http://www.goestores.com/storename/d...-10310162.aspx

works like a champ use them whenever I get a customer complaining about smoke smells.

And those O zone generators are expensive, this is a cheaper and easier alternative.
