Removing a scratch - what am I doing wrong?

Hello ~

Well, today I found a nice little scratch on my front fender. So, I grabbed a MF towel, some Meguiars Scratch X and went to work. After the first application, the scratch appeared to be gone. However, after a closer inspection of where the scratch was, I noticed that it was still there, however the white part of it seemed to be filled in. It looked like the scratch was gone, expect the outline of the scratch seems to remain. How do I get rid of this? I tried about 4 applications of the Scratch X, but the scratch still seems to remain. Do I need something like a DA polisher to really get rid of this? If so, what should I use in conjunction with the DA to remove this?

Oh, ok.. How come the scratch x is actually filling in the scratch then, but not really removing it if it's too deep? I thought that if a scratch was "too deep", it would still reveal white when the product being used to remove it was wiped aways? I'm kind of confused...

If you can 'catch' a fingernail in the scratch it's too deep (0.04 Mil)
