The UDM is stronger, better low end, and high end torque.....If youve never used one before, I would certainly recommend the UDM.

I cant speak on the PC but I used the UDM for the 1st time today on a MPB MDX. Now... I was a little nervous to start but after a few mins you begin to realize the small learning curve and my two test panels came out great (used Sonux SFX-3 on one panel and Menz IP on another - I think I may like the sonus a little better but I need to do some experimenting).

If I was to do it again, I would buy the UDM every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Good luck.

I use both machines. The UDM is used for the bulk of the polishing and the PC 7424 is used with the 4" pads. If you have to get only one then get the UDM.

I would opt for the UDM for the reasons stated in the previous posts. If the UDM was available several years ago, I would have purchased it. I've had my PC 7336 a little over 4 years and very comfortable with it. If for some reason it should fail on me, there would be no hesitation on the UDM.

I have a UDM and am very happy with it. With the correct pads and Polishes you can do some significant paint correction. I would recommend looking at the FLEX 3401 VRG though. It has been getting alot of positive feedback on Autopia and Autogeek forums. It is a much more powerful orbital buffer but it's pretty pricey. If you want something not too expensive then the UDM is a good machine. I have not had any problems with mine but I will warn you that I have been reading a decent amount of posts with people's UDM malfunctioning and breaking down on them. I will add that They do report the vendors are very good at sending out replacements right away though.

If I'm deciding to use the buffer on only two cars and to get rid of oxidation, then which buffer sholuld I use? CONAN777 you said the UDM causes problems, but what kinds of problems? What is the difference betweeen the UDM and the PC then?

The UDM doesn't cause problems .. there has been issues with the first generation of the UDM.

Read up .. the differences are posted.

If you are only working on 2 cars then buy a UDM. You will be happy with it. For instructions on proper use try the video's on Autogeek here...

The answer to your is question is yes. Before the UDM came along, the PC was the alternative to a rotary. Here's an article from Autopia about the PC and UDM. Compare prices on units, accessories and kits among the online detailing sites. Some of the power tool sites carry the PC (unit only) for much less ($99).

I can get a PC for $80 shipped with velcro and a pad thats the thing thats making me lean towards a PC instead of UDM. I know that the UDM is expensive. But no need to go so crazy over a buffer.

Yea, me three . . . with BP and Pad on top of that. I hope he's not referring to the 7336. And while we're on the subject of buffers . . . I found these two threads about the UDM and I might add, an interesting read but kinda controversial . . . judge for yourself.

Also mentioned in the first thread is this buffer made by Festools as well as the Flex and Metabo buffers.
