Porter Cable 7424

I'm thinking about buying one of these in like 2 weeks when i get my pay. i found it for 150 with a 6" velcro backing plate and counter weight and also a 6.5" white polishing pad. here's the link http://www.properautocare.com/porcabuldetm.html so my question was about the application pads, can someone explain the difference between them to me? and is the additional kit they sell worth it for $40 because i was thinking about adding that on also.

Buy it from www.coastaltool.com then buy the pads from properautocare. Coastal has the best price and best service.

Man why don't you just head over to Lowe's http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=prod...000041735-7336 and pick one up for $109. Its the 7336 which is Identical to the 7424.

For the pads just go to http://autopia-carcare.com/inf-pc7424.html and read that article. They will explain everything.

Another vote for coastaltool. Comes with 6" backing plate and 6" weight which work really well with 7.5" pads. I got my Lake Country 7.5" pads from topoftheline.com.

if you have any problems w/ megs shipping, call them up, they will do more then take care of it. I had a friend who got a package a few days late and they basically said what do you want from us and we'll get it for you so he asked for their WW drying towel. They ended up sending him 2 and some other stuff free of charge

lol, you gave me the link to coastal. I already bought the PC from coastal, but I was looking for the link for the set of meguiars pads. Because, meguiar's site sucks, can't find anything through it. I might try to call them up $29 is a great price.

I got my 7336 from Lowes $109 less a 10% movers coupon which anyone can get from their website. Topoftheline has the best pricing on Lake Country pads $7.95 each. You really need 3 pads (yellow/white/grey) to really get going plus a 6" backer plate.

LD, the pads? You need pads for polishing, and pads for finishing, in other words 1-2 pads to break your polish down, and then another smoother pad for laying your sealant on......Megs has yellow pads for polish, red pads for cutting, and beige for sealing.....with the kit, you get the backing plate, 2 yellow pads, and 1 finishing pad......$29.00.....

LD, the cutting pad is for obviously a little more bite that the polishing pad can provide. Your going to use it on heavier swirls or oxidized paint. (I shouldnt say obvious or you wouldnt be asking, sorry) Sometimes one can have more success with using a cutting pad and a lighter abrasive......This would require less pressure and time to break down diminishing abrasives.....Every surface is unique and should be treated as such.....I used products i normally use on average condition paint, on a black 94 SLS today, and ended up going back over it with a different product, it just didnt give me what i was looking for. But i have to tell you one thing, Meg's #80 is freeeeeeking awesome with a PC on slightly oxy'd black ! Damn it looked good !!

just search W-DAV99

Yah the red pad from Meg's is very harsh and should only be used on the worst finish - the yellow pad is extermley versatile - wtih a good Swirl Mark Remover or Polish at 5.5 is can do wonders - at lower speeds with a glaze or polish it can get that wet look in no time - keep in mind if you are going to finish with multiple layers of a wax or sealant you can use the finsihing pad for the first layer but you should do the rest by hand - no matter how sealed it is that friction can remove your previous layer.
