Polish

Car is a few days old, can I just wax or should I polish first? I will be using the Meguiars NXT Tech Wax.

Polish if you feel you need to brighten it up, then seal it. NXT has some cleaner which will help to clean the surface " a little." BUt nothing is better for a sealant, then a nice clean sterile surface.....I would at a minimum, use a paint cleaner.

I wouldn't polish it. It's new. Just a nice coat of wax for protection.

a very light polish that will remove any waxes that are on the finish now. I would also say to hit it with some clay, to remove anything that may still be on there from transport, IE rail dust and such. just going to help your finish in the long run.

1. Wash with a good CAR wash (NO DAWN)
2. Clay
3. paint cleaner (I have Poorboys Pro polish)
4. seal with the NXT

Should get you looking good and protecting the finish.

Good luck!!

Did you wash your car (as per you other post)? Regardless if the car is new, you can put on a coat of wax for extra protection. Or you can go one step further as hardrock suggested. It won't hurt. For one thing I don't know what the dealers do when they prep/detail for delivery or customer pick up and maybe someone else can answer this.

Polish cleans the paint by removing oxidation and minor imperfections and makes the surface ready to accept a sealant/wax. You mentioned using NXT, you can use Megs #81 Hand Polish or a cleaner like Klasse AIO prior to application of NXT. Of course the choice is yours.

I would claybar it first. If you examine it closely you'll find remenants of the plastic panel adhesive on your paint (at least I did). The plastic panels are on the car during shipment to protect it. Once the car is delivered the dealer should pull the plastic protectant off and clean the surface. Still, mine had remenants on it. Claying should take that stuff off.

Should you decide to polish, I would, as everyone (almost) suggested, use a clay bar to remove surface contamination i.e. brake dust, road film, bug splatter, etc. You can use a QD or a soap/water mix to act as a lubricant for the clay. More info can be found at this thread by Exceldetail called Proper Claying Technique or Autopia's How To Library. Once this is done you will feel a difference between a clayed surface and one that isn't. Apply the polish of your choice and then final application on a selant/wax. Go for it, it's all good. You may not want to drive your TL after you get done.
