Optimum Hyper Compound... remove water marks?

Hey guys

My detailing goodies are supposed to come today

I havent tried to remove the water marks with a diluted vinegar solution yet.

Just wondering if Hyper Compound is abrasive enough to remove them if the vinegar doesnt work?

Thanks

You could probably get by with Compound II and 4" pads!

I'm just gonna hypercompound my whole car lol.

Will one 4" pad last me the whole car per compound I have?

Ususally compounding means you have some serious work lined up. I would have 2-3 on hand if I planned on 4"ing the whole car.....

i plan on wetsanding some of the oxidation off, then compounding it to see if it fixes it.

can i wash out my pads halfway and reuse them? i dont think i purchased enough pads to go through with a compound / glaze / seal.

No no no......Clean the paint with a chemical cleaner before you wetsand anything......That will reveal your exact needs.

i highly doubt any cleaner will fix this oxidation. IE my clearcoat is coming off. i just wanted to remove the clear coat and start with just a base coat of paint.

Whoa.... I hear that you are saying that your paint is in pretty rough condition but wet sanding off the entire clear coat will most likely mean you are going to sand right through the base coat as well. I believe you are confused btw single stage paint where you actually sand the paint itself with a Base coat clear coat. These are two different paint systems. If the clear is already cracking/peeling off then a repaint is probably your only option so I guess you can't really hurt it worse that it is but sanding off the clear will prob not work. Unless you are able to repaint the car I would only compound the car, forget the wet sanding. Again just my opinion, I'm not sure of your experience with paint and wet sanding so maybe you know more than the average person??

Got any pics?

Well, I have your typical honda aids on my trunk. The clearcoat is gone in some areas. I've tried wetsanding it before, but since I never had a machine to compound after, the results werent too great.

I will try to post pics later tonight.

Patrick,

What chemical cleaner would you recommend...?

I'm going to be wetsanding my Carbon Fiber Hood and compounding with Optimum + Yellow 4"

Can I use TR-3?

Ya know what I would use? Nufinish! (I bet ya never thought you would here that from me) It has alot of petroleum which is basically what will soften and remove the oxidation.
The Danase Pure Polish I have is stellar, but give the Nufinish a shot. Its a lot easier to use then TR3.
Megs Deep Crystal Polish would be another good OTC.

Thanks...I'm asking because I'm going to start wetsanding tomorrow and I don't have any extra time.

Nufinish is OTC from what I remember.

Thanks again...!

Damn! Haven't seen TR3 ever since Mr. T used to sell it on TV!

TR3 goes on easy, stays on hard.
Makes your car beautiful..........like me.

I think I just dated myself! I pity the foo!
