need help washing my car this weekend....

i bought meguiars car wash, turtle wax, turtle wax polishing compound and some micro-fiber clothes. my question is should i use polishing compound for minor swirl marks that i can barely even see in sun light? also should i polish my whole car with this polishing compound and wax it?

How hellbent are you on using OTC stuff?
I would say, if you are at the point of noticing swirl marks but not at the point of wanting to spend hundreds on a PC and all products, Zaino does WONDERS for hiding it.

I would recommend very simply, wash the car, clay bar it (over the counter stuff), and finish off with Z-2 and maybe get Z-6 for in between. You won't be disappointed.

First off .. your not going to remove any swirling by hand with OTC stuff .. matter of fact you stand a good chance of ending up with a mess.

This is the efforts of someone using the TW polish by hand and not knowing a thing about it.

Next off the TW wax is very low end and won't last at all .. Duragloss #105 is a lot better and will hide a we bit. Avaialble at Carquest.

Your better off if your going to do it by hand is to use Meguires ColorX which will clean up the paint and in removing the oxidization it will take a little swirling too. Then the #105

As far as spending the money for Zaino .. well great sealant & great marketing but its not going to fill anything . Zaino, as with the rest of the high end sealants, are dependent on a good polished out base. If not you just get shiny swirls.

Z5 is claimed by them to fill swirling and even it doesn't do that hardly at all. Z2 is thier pure sealant and will do nothing to hide anything.

Its all in the prep.

First off tell me in detail how you are washing & drying your carl .. products used .. what you used to dry it .. etc etc .. sponges mitts type ... what drying media...

Lets eliminate the problem first. Then reduce the swirls.

What was your whole process when you washed your car?

To remove the swirls, it would be best for you to invest in a PC if you can. Are you looking to get the best results you can by hand...or up to getting a PC (Porter Cable 7424XP)?

i want to get them out by hand because i don't have a garage to work on car with the buffer or any other power related thing. i used a mitt to wash the car and a microfiber cloth to dry the whole car. my car was not even too dirty either but right now i am so depressed. i am thinking, i would rather have gone through car wash instead of washing it myself.

Unfortunatly your not going to get them out by hand ...

90% of swirling is induced through impropper washing and drying .. do a search here for the correct way .. has been covered many times.

All depends on the area .. $150 and up .. make sure he is removing them not covering them up with a glaze.

^^^
I agree with that wholeheartedly.
First off, be realistic with yourself. You will, undoubtedly add swirls. How many and how bad you make it is all up to you. Your car may look great for a year and then need a detail to (spruce it up). Or it may look horrible after 2 washes if you're not careful.

If you really just picture what you're putting up against your car paint's surface and rubbing...it will make sense to you what TO use and what NOT to use.
