You can't "fix" clearcoat failure.

Best would be to wash it and put some sealant on and hope that it will slow it down.

Just have a respray done on that fender? Its much cheaper then a full respray.

Also, polish/seal the rest of the car to prolong the paint life. Judging by the abundance of water spots, doesnt look like its been taken care of.

yeah i know you cant "fix" the failure, but you got what i was aiming for, thanks. and as far as the water spots are, the pic was taken at like 10 am after the sun had come up and i hadnt had a chance to wash it. i dont do automatic car washes, i like to do my own wash by hand. it's taken care of by all means believe me, my fiancee and i are on something of a tight budget, and i love to make sure my car looks clean. this is the only part of the car that i have a problem with aside from the main vss sensor. but your right, it would deff be cheaper to do it that way, but on the other hand i think a new paint job would be more than sufficient without the pinstriping. thanks for your input!!

I wonder how taping the area off and doing rattlecan clearcoat then wetsanding/buffing would turn out?

I did that on my sons chev P/U. He had failure on the A pillar .. I carefully sanded the clear back to a stable spot being careful not to sand through the color coat. Then I uased a good quality rattle can to apply a few layers then lightly wet sanded it and polished it out.

Wasn't great and looked ok from 10 feet. A lot better than it did.

There is a good possibility that fender was resprayed to have only that panel fail.

Not uncommon.

The real results will be seen in the prep and finishing work. But any auto parts store should have Dupont Clear Coat in a spray can.

Didn't realize you were from Chattanooga, I'm down there about twice a month as my fiancee' is finshing up her nursing degree.

Haha. I wouldnt suggest just simply spraying it on there. Going to need sand the area your painting to remove it all back to the clear coat thats still good. Then clean the area very well and be sure to cover what you don't want clear coat on. Then let the paint dry very well before wetsanding and buffing...in a nut shell.

One person to talk to regarding paint is teranfon aka Terry. He should be able to point you in the right direction as far as prep and painting goes.
