NBP Squirlmarks, how to get rid??

Just as the title says, my car is only 1 month old. I wash it every week and carefully waxed afterward but i still get very noticeable squirlmarks under a sunny day. Anyways to get rid of those? or just bare with it?

Its going to be near impossible to remove the swirl marks by hand ... you can invest in a PC , polishes, pads etc or find a good detailer in your area that does correction not filling.

Then improve your washing/drying protocol so you don't induce more swirls.

Short of a PC, these may be of help. They are made of the same materials (pads) one would use with the PC, but made for use by hand.

Actually it's not hard to get swirl marks out by hand. In fact, if you don't know what you are doing with a polisher, even and orbital, you're asking for trouble. When I have more time I will post a detailed wash/wax maintenance schedule. Rule of thumb though is when you wash your car do NOT do it in a circular motion. Go with the paint. Much as you would go with the grain of wood when you are sanding it. Don't wash your doors in a half moon motion, again, always go with the lines of the car.

I think what Dale meant was there is no comparison. You can try by hand with conventional methods, but it will take quite some time, and physical labor. Thats why i introduced the "Excelerator 5-pc Hand Polishing system", which allows users who dont have the luxury of a PC, or maybe not the finances for a PC setup (roughly $175.00). I mean for $15.00, its a hell of a lot better then just using polishes with a "wax applicator".......

What exactly is a PC ??

I used meguiar's wax every week but still get these swirlmarks, it sucks !! I also made sure to rinse off all the dirt on the car before I started cleaning with soap ... A detailed wash/wax maintenance schedule would be appreciated.

You really don't need a schedule to maintain your car, you need the knowledge to maintain it. Just having a schedule won't automatically make you proficient in correctly maintaining your car.

Just keep on reading and trying things out for yourself and in time you will get the hang of things. Oh and just save yourself the trouble and get yourself a PC (Porter Cable 7424). If you really value your time, you'll choose wisely and buy the PC.

please....some swirl marks are even hard to get out with a machine, nevermind doing it by hand....i say impossible...

and i personally had never used a udm before last spring, and i would have to say you would almost have to be trying to do damage to your paint with an orbital to actually do damage, otherwise the machine is fool proof...

I think what Lou01 meant when he said "go with the grain of wood when you are sanding it" is when you wash your car go side to side or up and down. oh crap, I think Im confusing myself lol

Sorry but...............

Let's not get too crazy here. Auto paint is not similar to wood. I would be very disappointed if I saw grain lines in my paint finish. You can use circular, horizontal, and vertical motions without marring the paint finish.

For example:
  • I use circular motions when I apply a wax or sealant.
  • I use horizontal motions when I apply a quick detailer.
  • I use vertical and diagonal motions when I remove a LSP or quick detailer.

The point is that using proper technique with proper tools will provide excellent results regardless.
