my first cleaning kit ....

I just joined here a few weeks ago and have been reading on the amazing questions, answers and jobs you all do here.

Promoting clean-car concept, you got me sold on trying it out myself rather than hand-wash car washes i have been using for a very very long time.

First off, here is my situation:

My 09 TSX is Votex Blue with Ebony leather interior, with stock wheels. and it's a lease. so without going over board and spending a ton of money on maintaining it, i want to achieve optimum look and feel. And i do not have any machine or anything. all of this will be done by hand.

That being said, how do the following products look together to keep the car looking slick:
The procedure i have planned is:
  • Wash
  • Dry
  • Wheels & Tires using Opti-Bond Tire Gel
  • Exterior using Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer
  • Interior using Optimum Protectant Plus
I'm planning to use MF Towels for all of them.
  1. What do you think of that stuff?
  2. Can any of those be used to clean the glass?
  3. Do i have to mask and protect the "Chrome" and other parts of the car? (door handles, grill, emblems, lights)
  4. Are all MF towels lint-free?
  5. Can use MF for all purposes?
Thanks

I think I have something you might be interested in.......

I'm planning to use MF Towels for all of them.
  1. What do you think of that stuff? Cant go wrong with Optimum, as many will attest. They are especially user friendly
  2. Can any of those be used to clean the glass? You may want to consider a smaller Waffle Weave for glass polishing.
  3. Do i have to mask and protect the "Chrome" and other parts of the car? (door handles, grill, emblems, lights) Any place you do not want a polish, you either need to be cautious around, avoid or tape off.
  4. Are all MF towels lint-free? No.......Most linting is derived from very inexpensive low quality towels. They also lint from overdrying as the fibers will break down under hi heat. Over time, they should be replaced. They are not a miracle towel, they have limits!
  5. Can use MF for all purposes? Take care of them, and they will take care of you. I dont recommend using them to check oil levels, and clean glass with......(Although ones that have been abused or dropped and unable to clean thoroughly can be relegated to ahem.....dip sticks cleaners.

Looks like you're off to a good start. I personally prefer the Black Magic Titanium Matte Tire Finish for my tires, applied with an applicator. Both can be found at pretty much any auto store or Walmart.

Also, you will want to use a good APC and brush to clean the tires up real nice for the OptiBond.
