Mother's CLAY BAR works wonders !

i had a lot of paint overspray on my hood, bumper and 2 front fenders. With the Mother's CLAY BAR for $16.99, and about an hour's worth of work, I got all the overspray COMPLETELY off =) Definitely a better deal than the detail shop's $175.00 quote for buffing it out. LOL.

I recently used a clay bar for the first time. That thing is amazing.

Congrats.

WOW im surprised that you guys havent used the clay bar before, ive just bought my 6th clay bar set, , i try to clay bar the car at least once every 3 months and a nice wax too with the canuba sealer as well

claying the car makes the car ooooo so smooth and its it worth the 16 bucks you pay for it, also you can use the bar up to about 4-5 time sbefore you throw it away, i only use mine bout 3 time then i have to get a new one due to that i dont have any more solution to spray on the car but i have found that you can split the bottle into 2 parts and water down the solution with a 1/4 part water and the things works just the same just make sure you do circle motions and do only in sections of about 12x12 inches and clean of with a nice clean terry cloth towel

glad to hear more and more are using this product i love it and stand by it 110%

Is claying the same as using compound? I found some turtle wax compound at autozone and used it. I was amazed. I used it on certain spots on the car that had door dings and rubs. It took out those discolorations and abrasions. I was blown away at the difference afterwards.

I'm a recent first time claybar user too. Mother yellow with their lube, amazing. Got rid of all kind of asphalt/tar and bugs. I only did the trouble spots, where I could see dots from 4 inches away, but next time I'm going to do the whole car.

I use Zaino's claybar & had to get the mothers one for an emergancy I had. I didn't like it. I thought the Zaino one worked better & the material was a bit easier to work with.

My car is a 2002, would claying help? It has some sap, and other gunk on the paint. Would the process make some paint chips larger? Also, any experience with Meguiar? I like to stick with a few brands and I have the Meguiar 3 steps as well as Zaino at home.

Do you recommend claying for old, rusting cars. My friend has a 85 Prelude and I am wondering if I should tell him to clay.

Claying isn't the same as using a compound. Clay is designed to strip out impurities and particles that have embedded themselves in the car's paint or clearcoat that make the surface rough or gritty to the touch. After you clay, the surface should feel much smoother, like new cars in a showroom or car show. Compound is used, as you noted, to take out discolorations and abrasions.

You should definitely feel a difference after claying. It shouldn't have any impact on the paint chips as long as there's no loose paint or anything like that. I don't think there's much difference between brands - apparently most of the clay in N. America comes from just two manufacturers, and I believe Mother's is the same as Zaino's.

I would clay a rusting car, but clay won't make the rust go away, and I would be careful around those spots as I wouldn't want the clay to pick up any rust particles and then grind them into the paint. Hope that helps!

Edit: Mother's clay looks like it's the same as Zaino's recently, not sure if they were sourced from different vendors before.

fantom, do you have pics? I don't know how adventurous you are, but if you're new to this sort of thing then I would recommend a good hand wash and claying followed by Meguair's Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner, Polish and Carnauba Wax. Post before and after pics if you do it!
