M105 working time...

Off the top of anyone's head that has worked with the M105/M205 combo, do you recall how many slow passes you made before the abrasives started breaking down to a point where they didn't cut anymore? I'm trying to perfect my technique. I'm using the Griots 6 inch DA.

I did the trunk yesterday with the M105 and I must say WOW! Until now, I never noticed all of the blue in the paint!

Also, any tips on how to more easily spot imperfections (swirling, marring, scratches, etc) would be appreciated. I have both a LED flashlight and a halogen flashlight but both are very hard to see any imperfections.

To get a better idea of speed and movement I watched "Junkman's" YouTube vids. According to his video, anyone with a PC or Griots should be working about a 16 second pace. So from one side of your working area (roughly 2'x2') to the other side, then do the next thing going the other direction overlapping your previous work by about 1/2 of the pad. Hope that makes sense, his videos will go into better detail.

m105 and m205 don't break down, they have non-diminshing abrasives.

invest in a 1000W halogen work light from home depot. you'll see every swirl and scratch.

+1 All of the above

If the products become dry you can spritz water/quick detailer to keep working longer.

the sun can be your best friend and worst enemy when doing a proper detail. It hides nothing.

Thanks, I didn't even think of this. I actually have a dual halogen work light on a stand. Should work great.

Are you sure about this? I thought that they both had mechanical abrasives and broke down rather quickly.

Thus far, the m105 with the Uber orange pad is doing a terrific job of removing swirling/minor scratches. I have been following it up with M205 and the Uber green pad but really don't know what to look for when doing the final polish before applying LSP.

Thanks! I'll give this a try.

105/205 is non diminishing, 105 dry out in 3-4 passes so you'd have to work quickly (Or spray QD on the pad or on the panel to increase working time). If you have a DA and Meg's MF pads, use it with that on speed 5 and light pressure, its cutting ability is very impressive.

the super fancy ones can get up there in price. i have the basic one...it works fine and actually warms up a cold garage really well all by itself. just don't stick your face near it...or any body part for that matter, you'll burn yourself.
