i have no idea what zaino products do, but that sure does seem like a lot of work....

wash
clay
polish
seal

4 steps...you got 7 steps there....that is way too much work....

Ok here is my take on it .. You need to go read the Zaino sight again.

The idea of the ZFX is so you can apply up to 3 layers of of the products in a day.

I stopped using the ZFX because as as good a "detailing" shape as I'm in 3 layers was too tirining to do it right.

Steps would be

1) Wash ... even car soap is ok
2) Clay
3) Wipe down with 50/50 IPA & Water ( this saves a wash and cleans the surface like Sal wants you to do with the dish soap.
4) Apply Z5 with ZFX ...remove .. Do Z6 .. remove
5) Apply Z5 with ZFX ...remove ( or Z2 with ZFX ) Do Z6 ,, remove
6 Apply Z2 with ZFX ... remove. Do Z6 .. remove.

By the looks of your process your doing Z5 x 2 and Z2 x 2 = Z x 4 .. you can only do 3 layers in a day.

The Z5 & Z2 are both sealants.

What your missing and Sal won't tell you this is your paint needs to be polished out first or the Z2 etc will just amplify the swirling. Z5 doesn't fill squat.

What is the Z-6???
I love Zaino products, but just don't buy them often because of the cost. I only have the Z-8 finishing spray right now.

its a spray wax that is used to improve gloss, and reduce dusting. To the OP, Z-2 and Z-5 are waxes, not polishes. You are sealing the car already.

For my car, Sal suggested:

1. Z-7 wash
2. Claybar
3. Z-AIO or Z-2
4. Z-5
5. Z-6

The Z-6 is a Gloss Enhancer, which gives the car a "wet" look. This stuff is outstanding. You apply it and wipe off right away. The car looks great and the finish is super smooth to the touch....just like glass. I also use Z-6 in between waxings.

I've never used ZFX. But remember, they recommend different products for different cars and different finishes. I drive my car every day-it's not a show car, so the products I had recommended to me may be different. They also have a hotline and Tech Support line to call. There you can ask about what products to use. They are Customer Service / Phone Orders 888-999-9870 • Tech Support Only 732-833-8800

I love reading Zaino threads. Makes me feel good about never wanting to use the product again.

Not really. I'll just say this: There are plenty of detailers out there that use one product that looks much better then Z2's sterile, mirror look, without having to put multiple layers down to do it.

So I just realized my mother had some Z2 so I used it today. I have a question.

My father suggest that the humidity in this area could play a big part, but also, is there something that I may be doing wrong in the application or removal process of the polish??? A lot of the time (polish or wax) I'm not sure if I'm not buffing enough or hard enough, but I usually find what I like to call "ghosting" or "shadowing" of where the polish or wax was. It's not over the entire car, but many parts. I can get it to go away with some elbow grease and a polishing rag, but it shouldn't be that way should it?

Your using too much product if your refering to a sealant or Z2 ..

It goes on very thin. Leave it sit for 40 min or so and remove ... if your rubbing hard then your risking marring the surface.

Oh yea, another Zaino "duh" thing. Unless you mix it with ZFX or lay down some Z1, Z2 can take quite a while to dry and bond. And if its humid? Forget it. If you put on several layers you'll be done in several days...

Anyway, you're putting too much on, you're not letting it dry long enough, and you should use z6 to remove...

I got my kit in the mail a week or so back. Haven't had the time to do it yet, but I am going to go through the paces and really put it to the test.

Agreed it sounds complicated, but I am sure it is like anything, you do it once and you're good to go.

Now I just need to find the time in my life to do it. Not to mention I washed my car on Sunday and by Monday morning it was full of pollen and looks like crap again. Can't wait to get a nice layer on there so it washes easy.

Yup. I picked up a bottle of UPP a few years ago and never looked back.

Honestly though, I am glad I started out on Zaino. If anything, it makes you pay attention to procedures and applications. So in that sense, I think its great for a first timer. Just the simple fact that you need to apply as little as possible sets you up for pretty much any other product out there.

All except for UPP of course You can slater that stuff on and it still wipes off effortlessly.

It sounds like it is if you buy Sals total "system"

I originally had the Z2/Z5/Z1/ZFX/Z6 etc ( the rest wasn't out yet )

And I found after the first year that yes, if you do all the steps, its a PITA. But I also found out that if you initiallay polish out your car to as perfect as you want it then put on Z1 followed by Z2 a 1/2 hour later ( depending on temp/hmidity etc) its rather easy. I think the Z6/Z? etc etc is all in perception and your mind.

Also ZFX forces you to use what you mixed cuz it has a shelf life. and 3 layers in one day after washing/polishing is too much for the average weekender.

Then tomorrow or next weekend add another layer etc till your happy with the look.

I never had a problem applying it thin enough but then I apply all sealants thin. Example, I have 33 applications out of a 16 oz bottle od Megs #21.

So what I'm saying is .. hell with the ZFX and all the reast. Apply Z1 ( once only ) /Z2 and your done for the day.

Never have to wax again? That WOULD be great!
I've seen some stuff online that swears it is a one time wax, but I'd never trust that stuff.

I went with the ultimate kit because I wanted to try out the zaino polish z2/z5, the leather cleaner and conditioner, and tire gloss. So it made sense to just get the whole kit and I will really be putting their stuff to the test.

So far, I've only used the Z-7 and it made a nice lather. Don't think it was any better than any other soap I've ever used, but it sure did smell great I will be going through the zaino process as soon as the pollen stops, or I get a good day to do it.

joerockt: I'm with you. I used zanio and never went back. As an ex detail I prefer a local Ohio company. I know the chemists who make the products - and if I need anything they are always there. Nothing like the personal touch in customer service.

Much better products IMO - cheaper as well.
