I was thinking about using one of those inline sprayers that attach to your garden hose.
ONE KIND OF LIKE THIS......
This is my “method”:
Fill the dispenser bottle up with Zaino Z-7 or other suitable lubricant.
Dial the soap flow WAY down and set the sprayer so there is just a fine mist of soap/water mixture coming out.
Hold the sprayer with my left hand and CLAY with the right.
This would keep a steady cascading effect of soap/water over the claybar and the area of the car being cleaned.
Sure it would waste a lot of soap & water, but the chance of getting dirt embedded into the bar and scratching the paint would be lessened.
I also have a 2-gallon version of one of THESE that I could use by mixing up a batch of water & Z-7.
It wouldn't last as long as the HOSE idea though.

Opinions ???

Sounds like a good idea, but I would imagine at some point you'd be putting on too much lubricant and it would prevent the clay from picking up grit. I've used some cheap clay before that actually began to dissolve if you used too much lube.
Try it out and let us know. I'm gonna clay in a few weeks. I am in the process of chip filling right now. Got a few new toys for chip repair I'm testing out.

I didn't find that maintaining proper lube was much of an issue when I just clayed. I just used a cheapo spray bottle with the diluted Z7 mixture.
It was evening and the sun was setting, so not much was spontaneously drying. Maybe your system would be good for those sunny days.

I’m not worrying about the solution DRYING as I will be doing this in the garage.
What I’m worried about is DIRT on the bar.
When I did my car last year I know I put a few small scratches in the Clearcoat during the CLAY process.
Even though I had just washed it THREE TIMES with DAWN an hour earlier.
Once I “felt” the resistance on the bar it was already too late.

i wouldn't use the first method because i believe it would be way too much lubricant and the clay bar would barely pick anything up. however the second method is genious because you can control the mist. it is just like using a spray bottle but it holds more lubricant lessening the time of detailing.
i might try out the second method when it gets really warm out.

i also would not suggest the first method - bar dis-integration would be an issue / . . . . .
second one . . . nice, very nice . . . .
although i am a slave to the spray trigger bottle . . .i go through two of them when doing a regular sized car . . .

Just get yourself a bucket for really hot water.. let your clay soak in it for 15 minutes before you start.. Tear your bar and half and use one half while the other soaks... You will find that your clay is much easier to use.. You never get the dirt out of the clay, the clay traps the dirt, that is why it is important to always fold it over.
