Griots random orbital polishing machine...

anyone have any experience with this machine, how does it compare to the udm or porter cable...the description on the griots site says its got a more powerful motor and some other features that the porter cable doesnt have, but they dont really compare it to the udm...its also less expensive...not much, about 20-30 bucks...its 129

Patrick is going to have some refurbished UDM's for $99, you should speak to him. Don't think the Griot's would be worth the extra $

There were some folks who did get the Griots buffer and I think there was one review on it. The buffer has a fixed velcro BP (I forget the size) and can use 6-6.5" pads. https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/griots-garage-orbital-buffer-review-349620/
The Griot's Garage Random Orbital spins at higher orbits per minute, has a smaller polishing pattern, a rheostat speed dial for polishing and waxing speeds between 4,000 and 7,000 orbits per minute, an internal fan to cool off the backing plate (thus, no heat build-up in our pad, or on your paint), a higher torque motor to eliminate stalling, an ergonomic top handle, and an easy-to-reach side on/off switch, plus your hands will enjoy much less vibration from the orbital!

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to worry about "burning" the paint with any of the orbital buffers.

Honestly your going to be happy with the results from any of them Porter Cable, Griots, Meguiars G100, UDM.........

I'd just go by price and the UDM seems like the best deal, I have a Porter Cable and if I didn't get it from Lowes at a steep discount I would have got the Griots since I buy alot of stuff from them. But the extra $60 is not worth it in my opinion(from the price I got the PC for). My dad has the Griots model and I played with it over Christmas this year and it didn't impress me more than my Porter Cable.

I don't think anyone here made a comparison between the two. You may have better luck searching some of the other detailing sites. Good luck in your decision.

I remember when you were in the market for a buffer . . . you ended up gettin' the PC. Man, how time flies.

Tell me about it!!

I was really wanting the Griot model at that time, but no one had posted anywhere as to it being better than the PC. So when I had the opportunity to get the PC on sale at Lowes for $69 I took it and ran. My rotator cuff is still thanking me

But just te reinerate, if the UDM was availiable and I could get the refurb for $99, I would have picked that badboy up no questions asked.........

I said the same thing awhile back. Oh well, no regrets though, I'm happy with my PC but maybe sometime in the future ???? For the time being, it still does what it's supposed to do. Have a good one!

hell, if the pc was availible for 69 bucks at lowes i would get that....i am just wondering if the griots machine isnt better than the udm as well...it does have a more powerful motor than both pc and udm....the griots machine is cheaper than both at 129, not counting a refurbed udm...
