Duragloss sealant question.

Hello,

I purchased some Duragloss all in one (cleans and polishes) sealant from Patrick at Exceldetail about 6 months ago. Anyway, I noticed today that I have some minor swirls in my paint. I was just wondering if this Duragloss would polish out those swirls?

Also, can this Duragloss sealant be applied with a DA polisher?

Lastly, the bottle says that it creates a thick barrier, that will last for 1 full year. Is this realistic? How long under normal driving circumstances in the Chicago, IL area do you think this stuff would last? If I went through a touchless automatic car wash, would it totally strip ALL of it off?

Thanks,

Jeff

What specific product of Duragloss do you speak of?

You can apply it with a DA but there is no real benifit as it applies very easy ... it just wastes more product.

As for it lasting a year .. Not likely... as soom as one manufacturer makes this silly claim they all do .. if they said it only last 6 month you'd buy the other one.

Lets put it this way ... it will outlast most others on the market.

Touchless won't strip it in one wash but it will shorten the life of any product because of the hard soaps used.

As far as removing swirls we need to know the Duragloss number.

Hey guys,

The polish I'm talking about is Duragloss #105 Total Performance Polish 16oz. Just wondering if that will take care of my swirls? If not, could someone recommend a one step cleaner/polish sealant that will, and that will last a long time?

Thanks,

Jeff

I know that this is probably a stupid question, but in regards to washing the vehicle, are the soaps used at the soft cloth car washes as harsh as the soaps used at touchless automatics? I know that both type of washes are really a lose lose proposition, but given the two choices, is the touchless automatic better than the soft cloth?

Duragloss #105 is a synthetic sealant/wax product only. It has the word polish in the description which can confuse people. It is not going to remove swirls. I also do not believe it has any fillers to help hide minor sractches or swirls.

Maybe Jesstzn can give some advice on this since I belive he has used this product.

Darn 5 minute timer!!!

As far as one step polish/wax products. I like to use Pinnacle XMT360, Optimum Poliseal, and Meguiars Paint Conditioning Cream #151. The Megs #151 has a fair amount of cut for scratch and swirl removal but I think the XMT360 leaves the best looking finish. All these products will require a polishing machine such as the Porter Cable 7424 or Megs G110.

It ( #105 ) won't fill or remove anything .. as far as the washes go if you have to use the touchless and don't dry the car .. even the soft cloth ones can mar if the cloth is being pulled over the paint to wash it.

Danase Wet Glaze has Acrylic Protection and minor filling attributes......as for any soap other then what you would use at home, and available online for CAR CARE, they are heavy detergents. This is regardless of washing method. Tunnel washes want the best bang for the buck.

So, will the Danase Wet Glaze work as a wax sealant, in addition to filling the swirls? Should I apply this by hand or DA?

Also, can I put a coat of the Duragloss #105 over the Danase, or will that not work?

Lastly, how long can I expect of protection from the Danase?

The DWG has light filling and decent protection. If you dont expect the world out of it, you will be ahppy. Its best used below sealants, although it can be used on top as well. GREAT on dark colors. Hand or PC app is fine.

vinnier6,

You can use a light cut (LC orange), polishing (LC white), or finessing pad (LC gray) depending on how much correction you need. I have used all of the pads with this product. However, unless your paint is SUPER soft I would try using at least a polishing pad (LC white) then you can step up to the orange if necessary.
