Detailing Lexus SC300

Guys,
I need some help with my friend Lexus SC300. He's getting marry this Saturday and I told him I would clean up his car when he's on the honeymoon. His car looks like shit! I dont know the name of the color, but it's gold. I'm thinking about buying these from Patrick:

- yellow pad
- Optimum compound (hyper?)
- SC Maximum Metal Perfect Polish
- SC Pacific Blue Wash and Wax (any good? )
- Excel Medium Grade Gray Ultra Block (7.5oz)
- Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer 17oz

-What's the difference between the maximum metal, killer chrome, and absolute aluminum?
-How does SC wash and wax compare with Optimum car wash?
-When would you use Optimum Hyper Compound?
-How does SC Clearly Better Glass compare to Stoner Invisible Glass?
-The headlights are completely yellow. Would polishing it make it clear again?

Any other feedback from people who have detail Lexus would be greatly appreciated! I will try to get a picture to show you filthy it is.

i've seen people remove almost all the yellowing from the headlights using PlastiX. Yes polishing would work.

i would just run the udm/pc with polish or compound right over the headlights, use a little care when doing it, but it will brighten them right up....just like the paint, the least agressive approach you can take to start off with...

awesome guys. How about the other questions? I have PlastiX that I can use. Is that any better than the Optimum Compound?

Wow...that's a lot of questions in one post! lol

Fortunately, that color is pretty easy to work with. What polishing products do you currently have? If you use the OHC, you'll definitely need a finer polish and pad to finish it off because it will leave marring on the finish. Maybe you just want to use that in a few difficult spots, and do the rest in something like OP. It probably won't do a full correction, but (a) it will turn out much nicer, and (b) it sounds like you're in a bit of a time crunch. If the car looks like total crap right now, I'm sure your friend will be pumped if you just take it up a notch with a good one-step polish (OHC is NOT a one-step!).

As others stated, yes...polishing on the headlights will make a huge difference.

I can't comment on the SC products. But I can say that OID is awesome stuff!

Best of luck.

Yea, I'm on a time crunch. This saturday is all cali meet and I'm staying until sunday. On the weekday, I work until 6 PM. It took me 8 hrs to do my car, so I'm thinking it may be the same for his car...I currently use OC and orange pad and then OP and white pad. When the sun hit my car, I see swirls all over the place. I figure I have to use a more aggressive compound/pad. Patrick recommended faster speed/slower arm movement. I think I need to try that.

Parts came late, so I decided to detail w/o it. This car has so many deep scratches on the front. The sides were much better.

Before (very mistreated!)

After (still have some deep scratches and other things due to mistreatment..)

Look, it's a black pad...

Not! this thing was filthy dirty after I was done. So how do I clean it up?

Cant forget about my baby...

It came out pretty well but what happened to that hood? LoL.

You can grab some Dawn Power Dissolver to spray those pads down and clean them up by agitating until it's almost all gone.

Yea, I think my friend had his hood re painted; not sure what the reason was. I'm guessing that the Power Dissolver is better than the regular stuff? I tried to use the regular stuff before, but it didnt work so well.
