Deep Water Spots
Deep Water Spots
Anyone have any good suggestions on a product or way to get deep water spots out, seems like normal washing and all wont get them out and my Zaino is on the way so i want to get them out before i clay it since the clay wont take out water spots?? Someone please help
I like 3M's Swirl Mark Remover, No. 39009. It is a very mild abrasive. I used to use it by hand, but my arms would always fall off
so I bought a random orbital polisher -- Porter Cable 7336 -- from Lowe's for $109. Best purchase I've made in a long time. The 3M product will take out the water spots, but you do need to use Dawn to remove the fillers and oils in the 3M so you have a squeaky-clean surface for the Zaino.
P.S. But before you go the Porter Cable route, try using distilled vinegar soaked in a cotton towel and lay that on the surface. Sometimes will remove fresher water spotting.

thats gonna depend on a few things . . .
what do you put on your car?
are the spots deep under layers of protection , etc
are they fresh spots ?
Im gonna step out on a limb here and say that Im not aware of a wax that will remove the spots.
You will need to use some kind of cleaner, or abrasive product (i hate that idea) -
you need to get at the spots , and that means removing whatever wax is on top of them, with something.
then, that means re-applying the protection when you are done - so, to shorten this answer - no.
the above solutions are among the standards . . .

I also have water spots. my car is dark green and everytime after i wash it i dry it with chamois. the bad thing is that while im drying i can see the water forming a sort of river and then drying into the paint and leaving the mark behind (i live in fl and it hot as heck out here). if i wet it again then the same thing happens in the same "little river". is this common of a water spot? i have this especially in my hood and trunk area.
also if im able to remove them will the zaino protect and prevent this from happening again?
thanks

Homer thanks alot for the advice used the 3m swirl remover, really good stuff. Now just waiting for my Zaino to come in so i can dawn that puppy and clay bar it. Great tips thanks again, the man definetly knows his stuff. Got any good ideas for minor scratches??? I have magieurs SCRATCH X but if u know of anything better, do tell.
P.S. nandowong, i live in Fl so i know how u feel, i have been using the absorber and finding that really helps get rid of the rivers when u follow it up with a terry cloth, if you really wanna dry the car off, and u have a leaf blower those things are great for getting in nooks and crannies. Hope that helps

All true, and that is a nice price on the Porter Cable unit.
One problem, the Dawn has a hard time removing the Zaino and other polymer sealants.
The polish will cut the “finish” loose at some point, so this might be a non-issue when someone is going for the "polish" solution and really “digs-in”.
For bug, tar, water spots where some "other" solvent is required it can help to use wax/polish remover like prep-sol and/or this:

BTW, there is a point where the vinegar trick just doesn't work, but it's nice to try it first...
questions about water spots...
i have water spots that came inbetween multiple coats of Z
is it necessary to strip all the wax before attempting to rid them or can i do it right on top of the wax and rewax afterwards?
also, where can i got the 3M swill remover stuff?
thanx

Water spots
Hey guys, I own a detail shop in MA and I've been reading your posts on this topic. MATTR97's problem sounds like acid-rain damage. You'd be amazed how many cars I see with acid-rain damage. Lot's of cars have acid rain damage from sitting at the dealer for weeks and sometimes months without any protection on them. When the dirty, dusty car sits in the lot and it gets rained on, the water beads up and bakes in the sun causing it to stain your paint. It's pretty difficult to get out, but if it isn't too bad, compounding it with a high speed buffer should take out the spots. I've cleaned plenty of cars for dealerships that are brand new that already have damage from acid rain. That's why it is very important to keep a good coat of wax on your car. For those of you who say that marks are left behind after you wash your car, it could be that the surface is too hot and it's causing the water to stain your paint. Always be sure to wash and wax your car in the shade after you car cools down and make sure you let the motor cool down also because it heats up the hood. I would also recommend that you compound the stained areas with a high speed buffer to remove these spots and be sure to follow up with a polish or glaze, and finally a good coat of wax to seal the paint. It's hard to tell what it could be without seeing the vehicle but my guess is acid rain and hot surfaces when washing. Hope this helps you out. Let me know how you all make out. Good luck!
I only wash my car either early in the morning or after sunset and i still get those marks. Even after i go over it a couple of times with a try towel or chamois the water marks are still there. what could be wrong?
i used to have this situations on my jeep and cls..and i will still have this problems too as it rains and sunny days...so i will hand wash and dry the car..and then use Meguiar Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax. then after all...all the water stains are gone and paint finish looks like new again..good luck lol..
i just spent 2 hours detail my jeep..hand wash and wax...i am totally exhausted

water spots
Another reason you have water spots could be from harsh water. Sometimes if your town has hard water, it will cause water spots. I know someone that ruined their paint by washing his vehicle with well water. Could be the same type of thing that happened if you say that you only wash your car in the shade. Does it get worse every time you wash your car?
It does not get worse every wash, but it seems to be in predetermined spots. my car is green and when i rinse the soap off I see marks that look like a river of a darker green than the rest of the car. It might be the water, I dont have well but if i let water dry in the windows I can see a white residue left over. How did your friend fix his water problem?
water spots
If your windows are hazing up also than it sounds like a water problem or maybe the soap your using. I would bring it to a good detail shop and have them compound out the spots and start washing your car somewhere else so it doesn't happen again. Try to wax it as much as possible since it's a dark color to prevent any more water spots. I ended up buffing my friends car to get the spots out. Good luck. Hope it works!
