Cleaning the Inside Rear Window

I've had trouble effectively cleaning the inside rear window on every car I've owned. With the rake on the TL, it's even harder to reach the back lower edges.

Any tips or tricks of the trade from the experts?

I hear that Bearcat.

The TL doesnt leave a ton of room to work with. I just spray on a MF towel then try to work the corners. I can't get a perfect wipe down just due to the space constraints.

Yeah, thanks. I do have the "low nap/no nap" type MF for glass and use Stoners. In gerneral the glass looks great, but like you said, theres not much room. And lets face it, I'm not as young and flexible as I used to be.

I thought there might be some trick or tool (store bought or ghetto) that somebody had. Maybe not.

Try this handy tool called The Glassmaster . . . works great, extends your reach especially in tight places and the dreaded corners.

That looks so nerdy just to clean your windows but that certainly looks like something that would work.

I saw your post so I purchased. I searched around and bought a new one for $12...I tried it yesterday and was impressed. It works very well and is great for those corners. My only concern is how long can you keep snapping the diamond shaped covers off of the handle before the contact breaks? They recommend you use one head to get wet and clean and the other to dry off and shine. It definately makes cleaning the inside front and back windows and lot easier to clean and it does an excellent job...

Glad I found this thread ... I was detailing my TSX this weekend, and noted that the inside-rear window was very smudgy. It's a CPO with 38,000 on the ODO, so I wondered if the prev owner smoked or...? I tried MF towels with Stoner's sprayed on, not much good, so I just sprayed the Stoners directly on the glass, and wiped mostly-horizontally. A bit better, but still some smears. Maybe I should try some siliconized glass cleaner from a pilot shop (used to use some when I was a Coast Guard aircrewman, there was nothing better).

Could there be some treatment on the window related to the defogger that's getting smeared? I'm a bit of a newbie on this, my previous long-term car is a 20 year old Wranger, with soft top. TIA!

I've owned one for about two and half years and haven't had any premature failure.

Certain circumstance require a little creativity! I wonder what the original prototype Glassmaster looked like???

Thread Revival.

I was at the auto parts store (O'Reilly, I think) and found one of these tools in the area with MF towels and such, so I bought it. This one is branded Stoners.

http://www.invisibleglass.com/ReachClean.htm

Tried it out this week-end. MUCH better than trying to clean inside front and rear windsheilds by hand. You can get a pretty good amount of leverage and don't have to get all contorted to reach the lower corners. I had given up on even cleaning the inside rear windshield. This is a big help.

Tip: After cleaning, do a "dry" pass with a clean MF hung over the tool.

I got one when they were $5 at Home Depot. I use it to clean the massive mirror in my bathroom (I'm not short, but it goes almost all the way to the ceiling and I can't reach the top.) It works great. Used it in my last car too. It's awesome. still have to clean the area around the rear view mirror by hand, but I can get the majority of it with the Glass Master.

I find the little LCD/eyeglass cleaning wipes work pretty well for interior glass touch-ups. But I'll look for the Stoner's tool ... other people sell things like this. Just a good way to get at that bottom edge of the rear window...?

I also use Stoner's Invisible Glass cleaner on my tint without issues. Perhaps he was referring to the newspaper.

Just to add to the thread, it is evaporated plastic from interior pieces that coats the inside glass. That is what you are trying to get off. Problem lessens in the winter coolweather, worse in summer. Is a whitish film.
