Claying

Does anyone know who long it would take to clay an entire car ( tsx) ? I know one person said it took him 6 hrs on the forum. Is that true?

Clay a TSX?

If you know what you're doing, 20 minutes, tops.

Use the detailer.
Use plenty of lube, and just let it rip. You can go as fast as you want. Just be sure to fold the clay over to a fresh side when starting a new panel. You'll be fine.
The guy that said it took him 6 hours was because he had some rust flakes that were imbedded in his paint.
I just did mine last night. Took my 20 minutes.

Thank Alin, I will try it this week, also if you can answear this for me. I will be using a cleaner step 1, then a polish step 2 , then show glaze and finally waxing it with nxt. Do I have to wait a certain amount a time between these process? The cleaner, polish, glaze will be by Megs.

thanks

Yea, I agree with exceldetail. I also have a spray bottle with soap/water mixture for additional lube. Then rinse the section with water. As far a length of time, it's taken me about 40 min.

Yea, I dont know how else to prove it to those guys. And like I said in that thread, I dont think the claybar was made to remove visiable chunks of dirt and grime from your car. Im not saying that it can't, just that its not its intended purpose.

And another point is that yes, most bug and tar removers are probably petroleum based, but I think many polishes are as well! I think as long as you use the removers, clay and then polish and wax your fine.

I took my sweet time and made sure I got every bit of grit off the car.

I don't think I could do a thorough job in 20 mins.

I would need a minimum of an 45-60 minutes.

Absolutely. I clayed my sis-in-law's 99 Sonata which had never been clayed before, and that took a LOT of time, at least 2 hours or so.

I purchased a clay bar from auto-zone and I dont think it came with any lube. Should it have? What can I use in place of that lube? I saw someone mention soap and water but is that enough?

Soap and water is fine.

It usualyl comes with a detailing spray (@least my mother's clay did) which is indeed awesome stuff. In any case though, the soap and water should do you just fine. As long as it's not dirty.

That guy had chunks of rust on his paint that he couldn't get off. It took him 6 hours of claying to get that off. But if you dont have anything major, Just want a nice smooth coat of paint. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

I've read on the directions of certain brands of clay not to use water as a lube. I guess they have a point. The water will sometimes cause the clay to become too soft to work with if the clay absorbs the water.
