to clay or not to clay?

Is it that necessary to clay your car or wash it with detergent soap to strip the old wax? If I put a new coat of wax on top of the old will it not last? Also, I know Zaino is very popular. I use to use meguiars gold class carnuba wax but after I washed it I don't feel the gliding smooth surface any more. Does Zaino or zymol leave the smooth feeling on after each wash? Thanks in advance for your replies.

zaino alone won't smooth out your car. sounds like you will have to clay it. a good way to start all this is dawn blue wash it (if you haven't used dawn blue recently, too many times of this can harm the paint). then clay all the areas you need to get your car smooth again, then wash with regular car soap. then dry all the way, and apply ZFX, a few coats ( i did 3 coats)... in between the coats wipe it off and Z6 it. eventhough this will take a big part of your day, i think its way worth it. your car shines up good!
