are you sure its oxidation?

or is the clear coat wearing off?

oxidation is fixable with DIY
clear coat wearing off would mean a repaint is in order.

the Sun Damages the clear coat, and if you havent been protecting the car from the start, the sun will do nasty damage to the especially soft acura paint.

you'll need some one to assess your damage.
if it is indeed oxidation, a polishing machine like the PC7424xp and a polishing compound will get rid of it.

however; if its clear coat failure, nothing short of a repaint will make your car look great again

p.s. in order to polish out blemishes, you will need a machine.

your hand simply cannot spin as fast as a machine.
So, it would be useless to buy that meguires kit with all the polishes and compounds...as you'll need a machine to take advantage of all those polishes.

I dont know the difference, but I think the clear coat is the issue. I tried rubbing compound on it already and nada. I was going to do a clay and wax to see if the clay bar will help this weenkend. I can take some pics and upload them this evening. My buddy has an orbital polisher, can that help?

if its clear coat failure, the orbital polisher wont help.

if its oxidation; the orbital polisher will take it right off!

sadly, yes.

maybe, maybe a shop could get away with just re-spraying the clear.

but, post a pic of your car and the damage first!!

First clean the area and with a white MF towel, rub the area with a polishing compound like Meg's Ultimate Compound. If you see paint transfer on the towel, your clear coat is gone.

Dammit. What about the hood? So I should look to taking it to a shop? You know the estimated price on re-coating it

hood looks like It's just beginning to go.
you cannot save the hood either.

im totally not sure what a shop would charge to spot fix those areas.

im totally not sure if they are able to just re-spray the clear.

the only thing that I am sure of; is that you'll need to get those areas re-painted or re-cleared to get the paint looking great again.

There are some shop that will do spot fixes for clears but my understanding is that most will not. They will most likely say that it will have problems with color match.

But I digress and will say that if you are starting to have clear coat failure, the chances are that it will start to develop in other areas of the car. If you plan on keeping the car for a while, might as well have the entire car painted.

As a temporary fix, you can wax the affected area and it will improve. But it will not last very long.

The problem with just spraying clear is that you wont get an even finish and it's going to look like crap. Its eaten away the thickest part of the paint and that will leave enough of a dip that cannot be filled since paint doesn't work that way. You'll have to get the panel painted. Get a few quotes from different body shops. Read a lot of reviews! Make sure they're not those dumb shops that claim lifetime warranty's that make you have to fix this shit every year. I made that mistake once already.

Thanks for the info fellas!

C8N- Any harm on doing the clay and wax like I orginally planned? Maybe I should just stay away from getting the Meguiar's set....

^ No harm in waxing. Just stay away from cleaner wax and AOI.
If your clear is cracking... which it appears so, claying might not be the best idea. I would just avoid claying those areas where clear is failing.
