Can I remove touchup pen excess with SratchX?

I was trying to cover some minor scratch on the door knob, but only finally made it worse..

now the surface is sort of rough with uneven paint...

Without sand paper, can I make it look better by applying some scratchX to it or will it only make it worse?

It's really hard to tell from you description (at least for me anyways) but I think you'd be better off if you could provide us with some pictures to help you out.

ha ha ha, yeah door knob....

anyways, it's hard to see from the picture I took with my phone..

I tried it anyways, ScratchX did make the rough surface a little bit smoother

how about what i have? i dunno if you have the same looking damage on your car, but this is what the previous owner of my car did. he def used way too much, and didnt finish the job.

from what ive read, im supposed to wet sand it down till its level with the rest of the car? i have a udm and optimum compounds plus ploshes, so im pretty sure i can buff out the wetsanding scratches. i just need directions on the proper way to do it from any of you pros. what i need to know is:

1) what kind and what grade sandpaper?

is that meguires unigrit the best for the job? im guesssing 1500,2000, 3000 grit? or will 2000, 3000 work? i also bought a sanding block thing, cuz i know you need a flat edge

2) how do i wet sand?

up and down, side to side, diagonal? how many strokes roughly?

3) best way to clean up after?

with udm, im assuming start with a polish on orange? i also have opt compound, hyper compound and i have a yellow pad

thanks guys

Bumper one. looks like its pitted

Well first of all, the scratch will need multiple layers to get level above the rest of the paint. Then wet sand horizontaly with the following: 1500, 2000, 2500 (this order)until touch-up paint is level with the rest. Finish off with a UDM and polish, then seal. I believe Griot's has a scratch fix kit.
