Best way to get rid of sand on carpets

Hi all,

After a trip to Lake Tahoe, I managed to get some sand on my all-season mats in my TL (2005 5AT). That being said, some of it spilled over to the actual floor/carpeting below.

What's the best way to get this out, besides the obvious (vacuuming being what I think of as the obvious)?

The reason I ask is because I think (although I could be wrong) that some of the sand pebbles will be too difficult to vacuum up since it might be embedded too deeply in the floor/carpet.

You can try to brush it up then vacuum it.

Strong vacuum and a brush at the same time. If there is a lot, you'll never get is all out more than likely. You could also try an extractor. One the dirt gets wet, your strong vacuum might be able to pull more out.

For you floor mats I would shake them off real good and then bring them to a laundromat and wash them on cold and then dry them on low heat. Mine came out looking almost brand new when I did that and it brightened them up nice. For the carpeting I would vacuum loose sand, then get a metal dog brush and brush the hell out of your carpets and then vacuum again, then if you really want to get serious shampoo them too.
