Armour All Wipes
Armour All Wipes
Hey, I don't know how many of you have tried the Armour All Wipes. There are leather protectant, vinyl protectant, and glass cleaner wipes. I think these work great and I really recommend them. They are not too expensive and they last along time. Whatever you do don't get any on the burlwood or silver accents.
The ones I find work well are the glass wipes and the car wash wipes. I use the car wash wipes to clean the car between regular washes. Lexol makes much better leather products. And meguires makes a better vinyl protectant.

Nooooo! Stay away from Armor All and any other products that contain petroleum distillates, after a time if you stop using the product it may cause the tires, dash, etc to dry out and crack!

Is this really true though? or just "urban legend".

I don't have articles at my disposal to link to, check out autopia.ws, they are the best resource for car care.

as the previous posters have stated, armor all contains petroleum distillates and it might also (haven't checked lately) contain Silicons.. if it doesn't, some competing products do.
The problem is that these products are denser than the natural moisture in whatever surface you apply it to and displace them. As a result when the armor all evaporates, it leaves said surface completely devoid of moisture and it'll dry out, crack, and start browning.
If you've just started to use it, stop. If you've used armor all for an extended period of time, you might already be locked in a loop of having to use it.
It's basically crack.

i've used armor all on the dash of my lude for years now and it hasnt cracked or started browning. it does get dry but i just spray/rub on some more armor all and it lasts for a good month. i know there's better stuff out there but one armor bottle has lasted me a good 2 years
another reason to stop using armour all...... if you are a regular user of armor all, you will notice that your interior windows will have a thin film that will grow over time due to the armour all's petroleum distillates. Besides, the fact that armour all can blind you when the sun reflcets on it, it is alo very greasy. I reccomend you pick up a bottle of Lexol Vinylex (at any pepboys) or a bottle of 303 protectant.
I've used Armor All on every car I've (& my wife) ever owned...A total of 8 cars over a period of 18 years....Sorry folks, I'm not buying what you're selling. Never had a problem with the product. Nothing ever dried up, cracked, turned brown, etc. The only watch out is if you leave too much on, it'll stay greasy and attract dust. Make sure you apply properly and it'll give you years of safe enjoyment.
I vote this one as..."urban legend".

Have you ever stopped using it though? That's where the problem is.
If you use Armor All, and continue to use Armor All you're fine. As soon as you neglect to use it for a period of time is when you run into trouble.

As long as you continue to use it you're fine, but like you said it will dry out, and if you stop using it at that point you are in trouble.
I'm not trying to 'sell' anything, just trying to help prevent the addiction to crack as someone above referred to (which by the way is a perfect analogy)
In the end it's your car, do what you want.
Cheers!
I stumbled upon this site, very bookmark worthy for those interested.
Here's the detailed run down of ArmorAll Wipes:
http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov...nds&id=3027015
Notice the ingredients on the bottom, specifically the item listed as Polydimethylsiloxanes (Silicon fluid/oil). This is the bad boy. Any product with these chemicals is a no-no. I do not know how dated this information is, I thought ArmorAll had reformulated their product to not contain silicon oils, I could be wrong though.
What is very cool about that site is when you click on that chemical it gives a run down of all products that contain the chemical
(ie, the sh*t list)
They don't list everything, like they don't have armor all leather wipes, nor do they have the STP leather lotion, but they do list a good amount.

The other chemical I don't know the low-down on it's detailed info, C22H42O4 (DIOCTYL ADIPATE).
Any chemical specialists amongst us that can shed some light?
I find it interesting that it's listed in Armorall and deodorant

Again, nothing ever cracked, browned, dried up, rotted, anything...maybe I'm just lucky, but never had any problems.
