After waxing problem

Everytime I wax my car with NXT tech synthetic car wax it leaves the white dust everywhere like in the door sills, rubber areas. How do you guys prevent this or you just wash it again? It's pretty much just a buffing out problem since all the dry wax goes everywhere. Maybe drive it on the highway?

RT, it sounds like your either using too much product or the towels your using for removal arent grabbing the NXT, but pushing it along and depositing it. Are you using microfibers?

yea im using the microfiber towels from costco ( the yellow ones). It could be I'm just using too much wax. I'm not sure if going to stick with this brand since it seems to not last very long and is harder to work with.

Yea, it seems like too much product. I have a few of the Costco MF towels and have not had any problems using them. One way is to use a QD to get rid of the dust. Spray it on your MF and go over the entire car. If you're thinking about using a different product, search the Wash & Wax forum and see what the other folks are using. Lot of folks favor Klasse, Zaino, 4 Star, and PB. You'll also see that Megs and Mothers are popular OTC products.

Im thinking too much wax. The MF's your using are plenty plush enough to grab the product. And I hear ya about NXT longevity, its just not there....Although NXT is one of the easier product to use, Poorboys and Four Star would be great choices as Haw said....

Short Answer:

2 months for me

Long Answer:

I live in So Cal (5 minutes from ExcelDetail) and purchased a SSM TL in June with a build date of April. The selling dealer did not detail the car before delivery. In late August I clayed it and put two coats of NXT on it; I wash it myself every week using the NXT car wash and, about 2 out of every 3 weeks, I use the NXT QD.

That being said, the car is still beading quite well (even after a heat wave and some recent rain) but it isn't as slick as I would like (on my previous car I used Zaino). I plan on putting another coat on it next week (although I am thinking of trying the Mothers Reflections products).

I was having the same problem with Zaino and found Meguiar's "Even Coat Applicator" helped tremendously. I use the Costco yellow MF towels for the QD and to remove the wax and never have had a problem with them.

I live in Wood Ranch and work in Westlake Village (at a certain automotive marketing company near Westlake and Townsgate ).

Let me know when you carry the Reflections line. I will stop by and pick some up. Heck, after seeing some pics of your work, I may let you do it!

I figure I am doing better than most with the NXT due to the use of their NXT car wash and QD. I also garage my car.

I don't use Megs products (that's not to say anything negative about them) *I* find there are products out there that better suit *my* needs.

As has been suggested you are getting better durability thn most, "I figure I am doing better than most with the NXT due to the use of their NXT car wash and QD. I also garage my car" could also have much to do with those results

How long are you letting it dry? Sounds like your leaving it on too long.

Dont know about NXT, but I know with S100 (along with most other waxes these days) its wipe on, wipe off and zero residue.

I used NXT and found it good, but it doesn't last as long for me as other sealants. I've also used S100 and it lasts even a shorter time being a carnauba (wax).
I've been using the Megs ColorX sealant and it seems to last longer but give similar shine as NXT IMO.

with nxt it seemed like it was too sticky to wipe off on an area I had just waxed so I tried doing large sections and letting them dry for awhile before buffing. I know the directions say do 1 area but I wasn't sure.

If anyone who uses nxt buffs right after they apply let me know

NXT is a Polymer sealant, so you should let it set for several (15) minutes to adhere and crosslink. Crosslinking still happens even after removal, so avoid getting it wet also. I still think your using too much product....

with excel about too much product and the statement you made (italicized) pretty much confirms it. I've used NXT and a little product goes a long way. I apply NXT a section at a time and the section previously done has already hazed.

If you RTFM it says apply NXT thin and to the complete car then wait 15 minutes to remove ... I use it a lot .. life is 5 to 8 weeks depends on how it is treated.

I've experienced the white residue and it was irritating. Found out that it was the combination of applying too much and the setting time. Because of the NXT layer being too thick, it takes very long to set and when you wipe it off, the layers underneath are not set yet and you end up taking off a thick, white top layer that gets pushed around and disentigrates into the white dust.. If the layer was thin, it would not get pushed and instead is taken up by the fibres in the MF cloth.

Jesstzn, just curious, is there a reason for a 15 min wait? The directions say apply to entire vehicle and let dry to a haze. Then remove with a clean MF or 100% terry. When I was using it, it was simply apply, dry and remove. IMO, durablility is not it's strongest point compared to SG or EX-P. Also the slickiness decreased after a couple of days, again comparing it to say, OSW. Just my thoughts.

Haw, that was me. The only reason I suggest it it so underlaying material can adhere and begin its crosslinking. Anything that turns to haze (dust) is waste. Thin is ideal, economical, and time saving.....
