What's the Rubbing Alcohol for? I'm a little scared to use that on my paint?

^why? all the good detailers use a mix of alcohol.

after you polish your ride, you'll have "polish dust" every where. also the polish fills in scratches and swirls. by using the alcohol mix you're revealing your paints true colors...meaning you can see what areas you need to work on more because the mix wipes away the "fillers" in the scratches and swirls.

True, but I think it depends on the polish you use. I have the optimum line and I get very minimal to zero dusting

But .. and its a big BUT .. the Optimum line leaves a lot of oilish residue after its wiped off .. thus the R/A wipe down ..

I use it too ..

Quick Update: Got the Porter Cable last Friday and it started smoking... literally. The thing heated up that I couldn't even touch it!

How were you using it? Detailed information would be nice, that's the first I've heard from a PC.
It may be factory defect, but PC's has been proven to be pretty reliable.

Yeah that is what I thought. I was using it like I've read and watched. Put polish on pad, spread it around with machine OFF, then spread it around at speed 3 and than up to speed 5/6 with 15 LB of pressure. Returning it to Detailer Domain to get it checked by Porter Cable.

I did after use the machine for polishing the car (machine OFF- as an applicator) with the Prima Car care and it took off majority of the scratches so I'm happy with the results without actually using the machine.

You should probably ask Phil if he can exchange it for you so there isn't too much downtime.

i seriously doubt you removed any scratches with the machine off...you most likely just filled in the scratches with the product you applied....

It removed the scratches. Don't know if there is a difference between filling and removing them, but most of them are gone. I'll get before/after pictures sometime tonight.

Yeah that it was Detailer Domain told me, he's never heard of this happened. I tried googling it the day of the detail with no results leading me to think I'm the first one.
