Good deal, but once you factor in the pads and backing plates you aren't saving much. I picked up my griots, 10 - 5.5 inch pads, and two different sized backing plates for $199 shipped.

^still cheaper. You still haven't used the Griots so you can't technically say you like it yet.

PCP + 10 Pads + Backing plate is roughly $160. That is a helluva deal.

And unless your detailing a lot of cars / month you don't really need more than 1 yellow , 2 orange and maybe a white pad.

I like to use more than just 2 pad of a same color on a car. I use three, 3 orange, 3 white, and (although i could get away with just 1 black with po85rd) 3 black. I dont think 3 is enough. I think four pads of the same color would the right amount of pad. No gunking up the pads with product. Better cut and the pad/DA stays smoother imo. Thats with cleaning pad on the fly, after every section.

Thats why I don't like the 105/205 combo .. too easy to clog up the pads with dried product .. thus needing so many pads.

I did one panel with the M105/M205 combo and really liked the results. I haven't had the time to play around with anything else yet though. I'm not all that sure how to clean the pads on the fly.

A little of QD on the pad before applying M105/M205 work wonders.

I was on the fence on this DA and when I saw that it was $89 I jumped on it. The only thing is the estimated ship date is 5/2-5/11.

Anyone know what brand of pads to go with for soft acura paint (NBP) and a cheap place to get them at? Also, is the M105/205 a good combo for a first time n00b?

you can go with lake country 5.5" foam pads. you can find tham at autogeek or google search them.

105/205 is fine. i personally have not used them but plenty of people have without issue to get the results they want.

i use the LC pads on all 3 cars (all honda/acura) without issue with meg's ultimate compound. cars came out looking fantastic!

products to use are all personal preference. i like the simplicity of the meg's system. esp if the car is a DD. i'm sure if i had a show car i'd use fancier and pricier products.

any other products you might suggest?? something simple and user and budget friendly for weekend detailers?? i've heard the optimum products are great products. i use their ONR wash and the spray wax.

i heard the 105/205 combo dusts a lot when you use it. the meg's UC doesn't dust a lot at all. of course the two products use different abrasive "technologies" that meg's offers.

I just ordered this but realized it says "rotary" backing plate. Did I get the wrong one or will this work?

Megs DA Microfiber system?

From what I read its very user friendly, the MF pads are nice, and offer good correction (maybe slightly less than 105/205 combo)

Since I just bought the 7424xp, when it arrives, I will likely pick up the 5" MF kit and attempt my first polish sometime in May.

Wrong one, you need the one for DA. That or you can buy an adapter, Patrick might have a better idea where you can find one.

+1, D300 with their own mf cutting pads = pretty damn good. Finish down with D301 = even better!

I have 105/205 but only tested on a small portion of the car. When I do my full detail this year, I may give it a try.

You've seen my car, I used Optimum Polish/Compound to get it how it looks now. I think it's been about 3+ years since I did that detail though, but the car still looks pretty decent.

MY ship date got bumped up

Now im getting this shit on monday... sigh

I didnt want to buy the DA kit yet but I think I might, other option is to go cheap and get like a backing plate and a single pad to do a one step for my first polish...

So I got the correct backing plate for the 7424xp (Thanks Mike) and was wondering if I needed a counter weight for the 5.5" pads, or if it is included in the box?

The description says a counter weight is included but indicates it's for the 6.5" pad?

Also, what's the best cutting pad/compound for severely neglected paint as in clear coat failure, sever scratches and swirls etc. that I can use with the PC7424XP? TIA.

^The clear coat is gone only on the rear spoiler, so I'll probably not even try to polish or correct it, however just wanted to try the most aggressive compound pad combo to try to make the rest of the car to look better with the PC.

BTW this is for a '98 Camry with over 145k and NOT my TL-S.

suppose to start with the least aggressive combo before trying more aggressive combos.

bad swirls-i used meg's UC and LC orange pads. others have used the orange pad with meg's 105 then stepped down to a white pad with 205 then onward to LSP.

it's a matter of seeing what happens...when you work the PC. super aggressive would be a yellow pad with 105. not usualy recommended unless the results you're getting with an orange pad aren't what you are looking for. bearing in mind you may need to make a number of passes before trying a different pad or compound.
