Question Timing belt hydraulic tensioner

Hello

I have a 2006 acura tl and i'm setting things up to change my timing belt, water pump and tensioner, I have a extra brand new hydraulic tensioner from my 1999 Acura tl and wanted to know if i can use that style of tensioner instead of the grenade style tensioner, Thanks.

Now there's an interesting question. I've changed from OEM tensioners on motorcycles (from hydraulic to manual) with good results. And my first thought is that it should work as long as everything lines up and proper tension is set...

But my next thought is why risk it? The OEM part is relatively inexpensive and you will have peace of mind knowing it's right...

But I'm just a garage mechanic do it yourselfer. Maybe a more experience technician can explain better...

I'd be interested in comparison pictures. Please update a side by side photo when you get the OEM for your TL.

I think they are very different, I would only use the correct one.
1999 TL 14520-P8A-A01, 2006 TL 14520-RCA-A01.

The 14520-P8A-A01 is the tensioner that Bundy claims can be used on the 3G TL....

The 2nd generation TLs and 6th generation Accords vary from the "good" tensioner and the grenade style.

Everyone I've ever talked to has told me that the grenade style tensioners are junk because the seals wear out and the fluid leaks out.
