2004 Acura TL HID conversion

Ok. So my son bought a HID conversion kit for his 2004 Acura TL. I'm no mechanic but can follow instructions. I installed the kit and you can only use low beam. High beam does not work. Or vice versa. I contacted the vendor, Kensun, and was told the kit is single beam and the D2S kit only allows you to use one beam or the other. This seems useless to me since I want to use both, not choose. Is there any way to use high beam and low beam? Or any HID kits that are dual beam for the 2004 Acura TL? This single beam option is useless. Or that's my opinion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What? Am I missing something here?

TLs come with bi-xenon projectors stock. Exceptionally good ones at that. No need for HID kits unless they are going in the fog lights.

^right, from factory the car uses bi-xenon...meaning one bulb for both high and low beams....

in other words, you did not have to convert anything! as it already is HID from the factory

His ballasts were bad and one bulb was bad. Instead of buying all that stuff he did the HID kit. I don't know why he did it. But is there a kit that allows you to use both high and low or is this single beam crap all there is?

Then replace the ballast and bulbs. Done.

Whatever he did is probably a MAJOR downgrade.

His ballasts were bad and one bulb was bad. So instead of spending all that money he bought this kit. So in other words take kit off and spend the money on oem ballasts and bulbs?

Yes buy OEM used ballasts off of here or eBay. OEM bulbs, CBI, or Morimotos from TRS. Stay around the 5k color.

Our bi-xenon setup uses a flap inside the lens to trigger low vs high. The bulb is just a standard bulb. Check your wiring to make sure that solenoid is still connected. I myself have never touched this wiring, so I have no idea what it looks like nor where it is.

As for buying this kit? Others have stated it...it is done already...but you get what you pay for, so do not be surprised if this kit fails in a fairly short period of time. You may be lucky and it lasts years....or maybe just a couple months.

return the crap you bought.

The TL projectors for headlights are some of the best in the industry with low and high beams. The factory projector has a shield/mirror that lifts up to allow high beam when you put them on.

Buy a used ballast or ignitor or whatever you may need from a salvage yard or online. Swap parts from the working side to the non-working side 1 at a time until you figure out what's broken.

I'm 100% satisfied with my stock HID's.... I get a kick out of hearing the flaps "clunk" when I hit the high beams too

The only thing I'd like to do is install some LED bulbs in my fog lights (which, on the 04, are next to the HID)

Do I need to remove the bumper for that swap? (anyone?)

No, accessible from engine bay. You may need relay harness though

Fogs are there only on the american TL's. In canada those are DRL's

And to swap out those bulbs you do not need to remove the bumper. You should be able to do that from the under the hood. Take the plastic covers off the front engine bay and prob the battery cover and you'll have room

Please, if you have any courtesy to oncoming traffic DO NOT get those ridiculous LED bulbs for your foglamps. Here's a side by side of my 9012 converted fogs only vs an LED fogs only comparison shot - https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g.../#post15302961

The cutoff or should I say lack of cutoff on those LED's is a complete joke. Those LED fogs are aimed higher than the high beams on yours/mine/any 04-06 TL. It would literally be more courteous to just drive around with your HID high beams on all the time.
