Speeding ticket in Houston, Tx--Advice?
Hey guys,
Just moved down to Houston and got the dumbest ticket. Was driving down Washington Street around 1AM (never been there before) and there was a cop standing in the street with a radar gun pulling everyone over. He said I was doing 40 in a 30 (I just got on to the street just before and didnt see a speed limit sign). I told him I wasnt even trying/thinking I was speeding.
Is it worth fighting or just taking the deferred judgement? I cant believe 10mph over is a $205 ticket.

Three Wheelin'
id fight it but damn that seems kinda expensive for a 10 over...My 25 over was 187 outside of Waco and my 23 over (caught by state trooper) was like 240 or so....Were you nabbed by a state or a local? That seems kinda high but I would try to get that dismissed. That seems like a bs ticket unless you were in a residential area.

be careful on washington...since it's lined with bars, cops often sit there and tag people throughout the night...apply for deferred judification or see if you can take a defensive driving course

the ticket breakdown in Houston blows, if you get pulled over by an HPD officer, the fines are staggered per every increase of like four miles an hour, I got a ticket a few months ago for 10 over and the fine was similar, its like...
1-4mph over- 100$
5-9mph over- 150$
10-15mph over-$205
those arent exact numbers but its very similar to that...it SUCKS

I fixed the glitch
Note: Do not speed in Downtown and surrounding areas. Washington, Heights, and Midtown are all areas where they hide. I've seen them hide before Ruby Tequila's on Louisiana picking off people who don't do 30 going into downtown.
Worse... some will wait near the Calais/The Mix and if you don't slow to 30 after coming right off the 59/Spur you're caught. It pisses people off but I slow down to 30 before I come to the light.
Highway hotspots:
- if you're getting onto 59 after 2am going toward downtown. 60mph. There is a cop always hiding in the darkness on the right side after the Greenbriar exit.
- i-10 west at 610 interchange. After the freeway starts to go back up, there's a cop in a white "semi-unmarked" cruiser in the left shoulder. Drop to 60.

Funny that you say that, I also just moved to Houston recently and got a ticket a few days ago going 40 in a 30 on Louisiana st, right by Ruby Tequilas. He was on foot hiding behind a telephone pole shooting radar. 200 BUCKS! Well, I am going to fight it, I cant afford the insurance hike right now.
Quick question to you guys, I noticed on the ticket that the officer copied down my license plate incorrectly as well as my birthdate off my license. Will this help me fight this ticket? I would assume not, but maybe I could use the officers inability to copy down simple information to my favor haha. Hopefully they will take it easy on me since I am an out of towner who just moved here. Probably not though... haha
Anybody been through the ticket fighting process in Houston and could give me some advice?

hmm i guess that's a good question...i don't entirely know, but it also depends on which cop it happens to be, as some are more lenient than others. To some, that "cushion speed" is a very real thing, whereas others don't believe in it and will pull you over for any amount over, regardless of the "cushion..
