Yeah, but did you see Paris go to town on the skin flute? That girl has some serious skills, and takes her music career very seriously!!!

My ex father in law has a F-250 crew 4 x 4 with the 450hp chip. It was a blast to drive, but too damn big!!

I've got 2 years (till the C5 lease is up) to decide what I wanna play with next. I have no idea, but a lot of those sound like fun!

I'd love to check out BoneDaddy's on a weekend or week night. Working most days in Ft Worth makes it difficult to do lunch there.

That's a little out of my price range. OK, a lot! They are absolutely badass, though.

I'm kinda leaning toward finding a well-maintained (aka older guy's cherished garage baby) C6.

On the first list, I noticed the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette C5-R was 10.3 in the 1/4 (but try buying one or getting it registered on the street--you can't). I also noticed that Car and Driver lists the fastest street cars 0-60 in 1968 and 1969 as 5.3 and 5.1 respectively. There is no way you can get sub 11 seconds without a sub 4 second 0-60 (prove me wrong), so what gives? If those cars are the drag racing specials that were only available to race teams (much like the C5-R), then they don't count (or, if they do, then we should be able to count the 2002 Lingenfelter Corvette 427 twin turbo that pulled off a mighty 9.24 in the 1/4 mile).

Of course this makes as much sense as debating who would be better in bed, Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton, or Pamala Anderson--each has their strenghts and weaknesses, some are closer to "stock" than others, and there is always the "fun to drive" factor we have to consider! Not to mention that maintenance tends to be a bitch on those models (although checking the oil maybe the most rewarding of any ride out there).

Hey RUF, don't worry 'bout that little bump--it's just racin'....

Cheers!!!!!!
You win some and you lose some . . . I just try and make sure I win more than I lose.

Not sure about the C5-R, but if that is true then it shouldn't be under the "stock" as offered by the factory listings. The others were available, just not publicized. One of the best options were the COPO cars that are represented well here. There were Camaro and a Nova COPOs that ran 11s with stock tires . . . no telling what they'd do with some real rubber.

As far as year to year claims, some models had even greater variances . . . which proves my point that no two model cars are exactly the same. The first Pontiac Firehawks had more than a second from year to year . . .

As for the different types of racing . . . well there's not too many places for fast cornering, but lots of straight aways here in North Texas. If I lived some where with some real corners, I'd have bought a different car for sure.

There's best in class and best all around . . . but everyone of them sacrifice something at some point . . . can't pull a boat with your STi, but I could with my Malibu SS . . . . and still beat a lot of cars.

0-60 and 1/4 are most often the focus because it's something that can be done almost anywhere and by anyone . . . . so it's the one most likely to result in some form of competitive encounter . . . like the article said . . . where can you really go and do a top end run? or run a road course? Not on the street, but you can find lots of spots to do 1/4 runs and almost any stoplight for a 0-60 spurt . ..

BTW - 0-60 times are really misleading as well . . . you can have a car with a quicker 0-60 time, but still lose a distance race. Some years ago they tried to do comparisons based on 0-60', 0-330' or something like that. As you found out from you time slips at the Motorplex . . . the car with the faster time and or speed didn't always win the race . . . and it doesn't have to do with hole shots either . . . it has to do with traction and gearing . . . . which is what a lot of guys don't understand on the racing threads . . . more HP wins? better trade-rag results guarantee a win right? Wrong!

Anyway, to each his own, but in the end we all mod are cars in some way . . . speed, handling, looks, sound, etc. . . . . that what this group is really all about . . . variety . . .
