ok i think i'll use this as a firefox bitch thread.

so FF3 is STILL a memory hog like 2 was. mine will consistently use 200-400MB of ram or even higher with regular use. I mean gmail, facebook, AZ etc. 3-4 tabs tops. nothing too crazy. sometimes I open more tabs though and i think its just the same problem 2 had - it doesn't clear the memory out when they are closed. f'ing pisses me the damn off.

124 MB.

Uninstall and re-install? Also, disable all your add-ons and see if it makes a difference.

I closed out and restarted it just about 10 mins ago... and I had to kill it in task manager because it stays active most of the time (another bug)... already after just casual browsing im at 307MB.. I dont think reinstalling would change anything

AZ's really weird for me in firefox 3.0.3. Top menu bar with subforums doesnt show anymore and none of the reply/quote/etc. buttons, avatars, or emoticons work :ghey:

did they finally do something about it with this new update that just installed? will have to see...

Improved Memory Management

With all new management functions in place, Firefox 3 keeps memory usage under control. The XPCOM cycle collector continuously cleans up unused memory. Plus, hundreds of memory leaks are now remedied.

"Hundreds of memory leaks are now remedied."?

Constant crashes?

For the life of me, I don't understand the fascination with Firefox. IE7 works great for me, is stable, blocks ads without an add-on (use restricted sites), and has a memory footprint of 105MB.

For me, it's the little things that are the big things. The "Copy Image Location" on the right-click menu (I use this ALL THE TIME and cannot function without it). The (customizable) way in which tabs behave and work, in conjunction with the middle-mouse button, for instance. Those are probably the biggest 2 things that keep me on FF.

This update *SEEMS* to have helped, my Firefox is holding at around 275MB lol. Yes that is "not much" given previous performance.

Sounds like you have some real reasons ... for me, browsers are pretty much browsers. My non-negotiables are:

- stability
- compatibility / friendly coexistence with my system
- wide support on the internet

I think a lot of people use FF because it's not written by Microsoft. That doesn't make it better for me. There isn't a software developer out there who isn't capable of churning out crappy code.

Um, so for some reason that escapes me, AZ just doesn't load Firefox on my mom's computer. It's up to date, and even after rebooting the computer AZ will not load. Some pages will open but images and avatars won't show and the Firefox loading icon (the dots spinning in a circle) is perpetually spinning. But it loads fine using FF on my computer, and it loads fine with IE on my mom's computer.

what the hell?

It could be some javascript stuck in a loop. Get the recommended ad blocker software. I mean, use Opera.

It's acting up again. It crashes every 2 minutes on the dot it seems. Initially it would crash when I clicked on the History tab too, but after I clicked and held down the left click, it doesn't crash from History anymore, but still does every 2 minutes.

I'm this [ ] far away from just sticking with Chrome. oh and before anyone suggests it, IE8 is completely fubar on my machine.

Sad to say, but my FF has lasted 5+ minutes now without crashing! I have no idea wtf I did (aside from going on engadget?!?!) but it works now.... knock on wood. Can't delete my previous post, problem solved for now I guess.

I deleted a bunch of add-ons I didn't use anyway, and I think what ultimately worked was clearing all my history.

Probably an addon or cache like you said. People should always try these avenues first.

funny you bumped this today, I just posted on my facebook about how Mozilla seems to have FINALLY fixed the crashing issue.. well.. it still crashes, but instead of totally bombing out, it crashes in a separate process in a little bar at the top of the screen, leaving the window still open!

I like Firefox again.

If you are having crashing issues, make sure you are on 3.6.6 or 3.6.8 -

So after working in the morning and for the good part of this evening, its started its endless cycle of crashing over and over again. after clearing the history and cache one more time it's still working okay.... for now. and yea, I'm on 3.6.6

Just remembered that Chrome has its own "add-ons" too. Time to go download some extensions

Wow, never had any issues, although after the 3.6.6 upgrade, there was a really nasty warning to upgrade adobe flash plugin to cure instability issues...

Anyone else having problems with the new current FF release?

3.6.13 is locking up and browsing REALLY slowly...

Using Chrome right now and it works OK, but the FF is screwed up since the recent update.

Been rockin teh chrome for a while now myself. There is only one addon I miss that it doesn't have but everything else is good. As silly as it sounds, the 1-2 seconds longer firefox takes to open made me start using it more.

Yep, Firefox is the new Internet Explorer for me. Just like how Internet Explorer was the new Netscape Navigator.

Chrome has crashed on me enough times for me to count on one hand. On the other hand, there were days where I didn't have enough digits to count how many times FF crashed. That was with up to date addons and even then I uninstalled most of them after a while to hopefully reduce the crashing.... but no good.
