I can get access to both and am wondering which I should get...

What are the advantages and disadvantages of both...

Thanks

If you're worried about the owner of the registered versionn getting in trouble, then get the bootleg..
For the OS, its worth it to buy.. but for everything else.. well get your burners ready..
Microsoft Software must be one of the most pirated things out there..

XP is pretty good once you get past the cartoon feel of it. It's pretty stable and supports many multimedia applications.
As 2000 did, XP has the ability to help you "fix" problems. It has many drivers available and many more applications that are made for it now than it did when it came out last year.

I am running Win2K Advanced Server right now on my comp, but I almost "miss" the look and feel of XP... Had it running without ANY PROBLEMS on my old skool P3-450, until its BIOS bonked out a few months ago. I have to get that beast fixed, it was quite a stable machine I tell you. After I get my other machine (crappy AMD T-Bird 1.4) back up and running (I will never buy AMD again) - I will probably put XP on there as well. It's a beautiful OS really... it is a memory hog, but hey I ran it on my P3-450 (albeit with 384MB of RAM) without any issue... I turned off that ClearType though, it really is a shame that that uses as much CPU processing power as it does, it really looks good... oh well.

there's my $.02 - well actually it probably was a bit more than that.

I got the LEGAL form of XP Home edition. it came with my machine. when we got our machine it was either Windows ME(which sucks) or XP so we got XP.
delobbo: I got a AMD XP chip and haven't had a bit of problems with it. actually if I looked at my old school PC(P2 233 megs) by the time it was about a year old it was giving me way more problems than the AMD.
I say as far as user friendly OS the best one out there is XP.

when i was going to get my new computer i did not want to use XP...but i didn't have my win98 cd to install that OS...so i just bought XP and i like it..you can basically change the looks of XP back to 98 if you feel more comfortable with that...

yeah, but even if you have the win98 cd, you can't install that cuz i think they formatted the hd differently or something. something to do w/ fat32 and the ns** system.

hmmmmm....... well maybe I was the unfortunate recipient of a lemon or something..... because this thing lasted me a whole 6 months.... before it crapped out..... I was running XP Pro on it - thought maybe I should redo it from scratch - so I installed a new HD (WD "Special Edition" 120 GB 8MB Cache) with Win2K Advanced Server installed...... this setup lasted....... a week... now it's back to not booting again. I'm convinced its the motherboard and/or CPU and/or both..... anyways.......

seriously maybe I got a defective one.... I'm going to try to take it back.
