Don't doctors still rock beepers cause they can't use cell phones in the hospital?

old school doctors have them so they can be paged from there answering service...and they dont have to give out there cell phone numbers, now adays u can pretty much have your cell on in a hospital..(my sister works in one and said most doctors carry theres)

I still have to carry one every where I go because I'm a volunteer firefighter. so when someone calls 9-1-1. It drops tones.(the tones are wierd to most people)
it goes Long-short then machine gun beep.(then dispatch comes on and says FOR MAPLEWOOD FIRE DEPT) then repeats Long-short then machine gun beep. then the dispatch tells us whats going on and where to go. I personally carry a Motorola Monitor 2(1994 model)(i know old as hell) but that thing been through hell)(been in actual fires under my fire gear, Once when doing water/ice rescue we had to cut a whole in the ice to draft off of my partner while cutting a hole in the ice (on a pond) fell in. well the thing is it was like 5 degrees out. (he forgot to tie a rope off to the engine) well since I'm also a water rescue specialist. guess who had to be sent in to save him. the thing was I didn't have my water rescue gear and we didn't have time to go back to station and get it. so it was either let him drown or go in now for him. So i took off my turn out gear, tied off to the truck (with a rope) and went in after him(not knowing my beeper was on my belt. we were both okay. they just rebuilt the beeper and everyone and everything fine.

The sports one was awesome, I had that up until 10th grade...even when I had a cell phone. It was only like $20 a month.

my friend had a beeper when he was younger .....one of those $1/mo beepers.....he found it a few months ago and told me how he cancelled the service years ago....

so he pops in a new battery, and after a few tries of remembering his old beeper number, he calls it AND IT BEEPS! yeah so it still works and he's not even paying for it....that's really weird....

Rocked the beepers here. Had 'em for a while, even carried both the beeper and the cell phone for a while.

Yep I had one. Finally broke down and got a cell years ago. I was so pissed at my pager that I threw it in the Bay when I was running on the boardwalk one day.

Believe me, I ask that every day.

It's the way of the archaic system that I work for.

maybe it's a local thing..I called it a pager, too. Still have my "Page-Mart" pager. Hasn't worked since 1996, but I'm a pack rat for sentimental stuff. Had to have a pager when I was 18 or 19. Cells phones were rare then. We used to "cruise the strip" and when friends beeped, we called back from a payphone. I knew where all the pay phones were on the strip. It was all part of the "look"--had to have the pager cliped on your pocket.

I had a clear pager my number was 1-800-542-5387 and it went straight to my pager, none of that bullshit that goes to a service where you enter a seperate pin#. I had it from 96 to 98. It was pimp shit!

Funny thing is I actually met my wife in a club in '97. I told her to page me and leave her birthday (1231) behind it so I knew it was her. Sure enough she paged me a couple of days later and the rest was history.

Damn, come to think of it, maybe I don't like pagers.... J/K!
