When you say 'software' do you mean legitimate programs or spyware and the like?

I don't know what could detect legitimate programs that just happen to be on your server. Just go into program files and take a look-see. Or look at other directories where the default installation filepath has been changed.

spyware is easy. Just pick one: MS Antispyware Beta, Adaware, Spybot....

Windows? Linux? Solaris? So yeah what software you looking for; spyware or just every application installed on the server.

also when it relates to server products they are usually never free. There are a few enterprise tools that manage legitimate software installed on a machine. The purpose of these tools is to help manage a stable environment helping to ensure that one software/update insalled does not screw up others. it allows you to rollback to different state of the machine without having to rely on windows built in restore. if this is what you are looking for i'll have to find the magazine article at home.

Not bad for free. You have to install it on the machine you want the info from though. Also you aren't supposed to use it for free if its for a business.
