Just buy a FW card and throw it in...

core duo macbook circa 2006 - Used everyday but soon to be retired
HP laptop from work.
New Custom Server rig - just built this weekend
Asus E35M1-I DELUXE
4gb's ram
2 X 2 TB Hd's
2 X 1 TB Hd's
1 X 500 GB Hd
Fractal Array R2 Mini Itx- case

Retired

P4 3.2ghz custom rig
2 gb's ram

I just took this out of commission because it was too loud in my condo to use as a sever, the intel chip Prescott E-series which was the first on 90nm process ran incredibly hot and always required lots of airflow.

Along these lines, over the years I got lazy and didn't wipe hard drives as I've upgraded. I did take them out each time, but now have 20 or so lying around. What's the easiest way to wiping them all? Was just tempted to sledgehammer each one.

I seem to collect laptops

I have my dell desktop from college and another from my sophomore year in high school

For laptops - a Sony vaio (old), Toshiba satellite, two toughbooks (not that tough Fuckers keep breaking), a Toshiba netbook, and a asus laptop I just picked up. This isn't counting the one work bought me. I have problems.

Tried it just now on my new computer. Worked! I guess with the other one, maybe the PCI port was bad or something.

(as posted in the "New Toy" thread already)
I bought this Netbook/Touchscreen-tablet off my friend for $200 -Lenovo Ideapad s10-3t I played with the iPad at the Apple Store and while it's got a killer screen/picture resolution... the fact that it doesn't do Adobe Flash was a deal breaker for me...

This thing is touchscreen and does Flash... and it has a keyboard It's great since there are soooooo many coffee houses around here (all have free wifi now)

Bump.

The logic board on my 15" MacBook Pro needs to be replaced...for the third goddamn time. Mind you, the computer is only two years old. Normally I wouldn't care, just take it to the Apple store and have them fix it. Problem: My computer is out of warranty now. $800 service.

Dunno what I'm going to do. The computer had $2000+ in repairs done while it was under warranty.

Bring it to the Apple store anyway. My MBP had a bad trackpad and was out of warranty. The nice people there said it would be $80, I said fine. After two hours the guy came back and said it was more then that and replaced basically the whole case, keyboard and all and said no charge. This is why Apple is great. Try it.

Oh and add and Ipad 2 to my list..

I agree with Whisky, bring the receipts showing that you have had the thing fixed a few times already for similar problems. They have been known to go above and beyond for the customer. Just keep a cool head when you deal with them.

Oh, here is my current list.

24" iMac (His/Hers/Kids)
G4 Mac Mini(Kids)
iPad 1(His/Hers/Kids)

Work: Lenovo T400 (His)

Upcoming
C2D Mac Mini waiting to be wrapped for BDay gift.(Kids)
G4 Mini to be retired.

And I'm going to mention my color laser printer because it makes me so happy over the inkjet that I got rid of
HP LaserJet CP1525nw color

15" Macbook Pro (2008)

I have an old AMD desktop machine that I built a few years ago but that's been sitting in the garage since the PSU died and I didn't feel like buying a new one.

I've grown to love Mac's since you can now run Windows on it. It has a decent dedicated graphics card so you can game whenever you want to and the design of the Mac's look great. It's definitely time for me to buy a new laptop though.. but I'm probably going to still with Apple. 15" Macbook Pro FTW!

Thanks for your guys' advice. I think I'm going to give it a shot. I have to head near my Apple store this weekend anyway.

Its really just a bummer/weird. First time it was replaced was due to a failed ethernet port. Second time it was the ethernet port. And now my ethernet port nor my USB ports are working. It seems so much like a software issue, but after resetting the pRAM and reinstalling the OS, still not working. Searched online and it seems everyone with the same issue had their logic boards replaced too. At least I can still use the computer. Just no USBing or wired internet.

I agree, Apple is great though. When I first started having issues with my new MBP, I posted about it on Apple's support forums. Long story short, Apple apparently reads those forums as they felt bad and got me a free subsription to MobileMe. I got a phone call one day with "Hi this is ____ from Apple Inc. I'm a moderator for our online forums..."

Late 2007 black MacBook with the 150 GB hard drive. Even now, three and a half years later, the battery will still run for a solid three to four hours even running the Wi-Fi.

I'm pissed Apple stopped making the black MacBook so my next comp will be a 500 GB MacBook Pro. Aluminum > White + Illuminated Keyboard =
