Vista Bitch thread
I never had any issues with it other than it being a resource hog. I also scan my system with ad-aware every once in a while. Maybe they should stop trying to get free porn and they wouldnt have so many problems
I got it relatively cheap too. I had $17 worth of Staples rewards plus it was already on sale for $39.99 for Staples Rewards members.
I ended up paying around $25 for it.
Vista has some problems but what you're arguing isn't one of them.
Resource hog? Sure valid argument
More vulnerable to malware than XP? Not valid argument
At least RAM is fucking retardedly cheap right now.
I'm not a vista fanboy and I would be running XP on my laptop if it was easy to get back on there(it's not for a few reasons) just because it's more light weight. There are things I like about vista more than XP and vice versa. I just don't like when people bash things based off nothing other than ignorance.
If someone knows more about cars than I and they tell me I made a retarded statement I'll listen. The same should hold true to people that know more about computing.
I tried to upload some pics of my new nephew with my Bro-in-laws computer the other day.... and guess what? Vista took me back to the stone age of computing...LOL... it was so slow I just went home and used my old computer with XP... is there a fix for the speed issue? If so, let me know so I can pass it on to him... I was so frustrated!!!!

Trust me "Vistas" ability to upload videos is perfectly fine.
Also, I'm not vista defensive. I'm false accusation defensive. (I personally am looking forward to upgrading to something else)
Yes, it's not as stable as a Mac. But Apple controls the hardware configurations and also the software that is developed for it. Of course a closed system is going to be more stable. That doesn't eliminate problems, but it does reduce them.
Yes, it's not as stable as Linux. But Linux computers don't have the support for the most current hardware devices and in many cases require the user to make manual configuration changes to make them work.
In both cases, the number of available applications is less, which reduces the chance of installing a pair of applications that conflict with each other or with the system files.
I think a properly-configured and maintained Windows computer can be just as secure as any other operating system. Off-topic humorous anecdote: I wish this little bit from an NT 4.0 launch webcast had gotten more play: Microsoft was taking open questions and eventually the topics were on network security. Some guy brazenly asks "But is it DOD3 compliant?" (I don't remember the actual term) to which the Microsoft person, without pausing, replied "DOD3 compliance requires that the system has no network card." The automated cameras that focused in on the current speaker switched back to the guy, who had nothing further to say, but the camera didn't switch until someone else asked a question - an uncomfortably long time.
OSX, Windows 7 and Ubuntu
All three work great, Windows obviously running the vast majority of the games and applications. I've had ZERO problem with it, its just as snappy and responsive as the other two.
I WILL however say, OSX is perfect for people who aren't computer saavy and just want the basics. Its not a slight or insult, but for people who don't have the computer know-how or judgment to reject potential scams/spyware and various other things.. OSX fits the bill.
Oh and Windows 7 is far far better than Vista, even with the service packs.
Exactly how is an Apple superior to a PC dollar per dollar?
Its not, they're more expensive per given set of hardware and quite frankly I don't see the added benefit for anyone beyond an intermediate user.
There are VERY few Apple programs out there that can't be found for a Windows machine. Two different setups that do the same thing

It was not a slight against people who are computer saavy who own Macs, if thats their preference then fine. Different strokes for different folks.
But if someone who is completely new to computers and had the cash to burn were to ask me Apple vs PC, I'd more than likely tell them to go Apple.

Still on XP so can't really bitch about Vista. I'll most likely switch to windows 7 when I build or buy my next PC. Is windows 7 less resource intensive than Vista? Not that it matters too much, memory and decent processing power are cheap nowadays.
Not sure if it is less intensive but it runs much quicker. And yes, RAM is dirt cheap, even with 2 gigs Win7 runs quickly.
How is it retarded?

Because there aren't games for a Mac? Ok, you win.
Sure it's not for everyone, but you made it sound like Mac users are missing a chromosome.
This isn't an Apple hardware debate, so let's throw that out.

I am EXTREMELY computer savvy. And so are many others. How is OS X not an advanced OS? Because I don't have to use regedit to fix something? Because there isn't an equivalent MSCE program through Apple?

For people who are advanced users, the PC dollar per dollar is superior. Remember I run OSX as well, I don't get money from anyone for my perspective and I just run what works best

This reminds me of a Sig vs. Glock debate

Sig is the official sidearm of homeland security. Anyways windows vista does suck it takes up way too much memory, the max ram you can have is 3gb, older games hardly work, and its slow. However it has less error than XP and looks better. Windows seriously sucks but Mac OSX has plenty of errors too and is costly. I just hope google's os is better. Just use windows 7 for now on.
my limited experience with vista has left me, not missing it. I just "upgraded" my sister in law's computer from vista to xp black. The registry had corrupted and pretty much completely bricked. spent a good 8hrs trying to restore it, but to no avail. Being the computer didn't have the best specs anyway, I went for a clean install of xp for that machine. Runs great and from what she gathers so far, it runs better than it did brand new.
I just see no need to use vista. If we want to talk security I still think xp is better. My machine I'm on right now runs better than my families 2month old dell, I'm quite serious about that statement(mine is a thrown away 4yr old dell). Their new machine will be getting a redo in the next few weeks. Not to put my foot completely in my mouth I'll probably use vista black on that one. As we all know however probably 95% of your computer's performance has to do with how well maintained it is or at least you'd know that if you've seen how badly they can be maintained.

I'm convinced know that you really don't know shit about computers.
