Thought about the new Palm pre?
Question about 4G....
So my company has a sprint plan but the company only supports the HTC and one other regular non data phone.
I bought a Treo 800W and just called sprint up and they activated it no problem. Even though my company's IT team will not support it. Would the same hold true if I bought the Pre or is there a different network?

FWIW I <3 my pre and haven't experienced the myriad problems a lot of other pre users have been complaining about, i.e. oreo effect, poor reception, dead pixels, etc. How's your pre doing?
I think it's unfair to compare a 3G iphone with a 1G pre. The 1G iphone didn't have apps for months. The true comparison should be 1G iphone against 1G pre.

Hey Rick. I had to buy the Classics App for 29.99 which allows me to run Epocrates and other older Treo apps. Truthfully, it's the only app I had to purchase so far and I was getting so sick having to leave the exam room and look up Rx stuff on my laptop
Just had to use it on a patient returning from Paris with the worst case I've ever seen of bedbug infestation. He even brought a bug in a ziplock bag
207 lb pt, so ivermectin at 0.2mg/kg will be 18 mg x 1 repeat in 5 days

I heard bed bugs were on the rise too
... Lordy, we had them in the 1st year residents quarters when I was either a 1st or 2nd year res
... I was totally rocking the leather chair in the commons area...
Just got the phone. Love it so far. I have one question on the google contact sync. It transferred all of the information that I entered in Google (Name, numbers, emails, IM Sns) but it didn't transfer over the bdays. Was that suppose to fixed with the updates or is everyone else having this problem?
Also, how do I delete some of the apps on the the phone (the ones that came with the phone not the ones I DL'd)?
Thanks in advance!

Cannot delete preloaded apps that came with the phone.
Iono about the b-day issue, i don't input b-days for my google accounts.
Looks like voice activated dialing will be available soon although I never used it previously and find it a gimmicky feature.

Thanks for the reply guys. I didn't like the speed dial feature where after the 9th contact the speed dials were letters. I decided to put my remaining speed dials as "apps" so I wouldnt' have to stumble to search for my friends and family.
HAHA The update once again allows you to sync up to the new Itunes update that blocked the Pre to begin with. I am liking this cat and mouse game.
I LOVE THE PRE!

WebOS 1.1 Features
Changed sound for notifications - You still can't change them yourself, but the new sound is much richer, if a little quieter
Animated drop down menus - they look really slick and really change the experience. The Context menus also have some nice animation.
Lots of Photo app improvements. A more distinct bar between all photos and your albums in the photo app, plus they're calling the Screenshot album "Screen Captures." The preview thumbs also slide in from the right. Faster photo rendering. Overall the Photos app feels much more fully baked.
Emailing Memos - The memo app now has a menu option to email a memo.
A new font for the Browser - uses Palm's system font and, truly, it looks fantastic.
Disabled the key combo in browser to open in a new card. Boo-urns.
Javascript interpreter Performance upgrades - this will speed up virtually everything and is great news
Sporadic reports of speed improvements both in the browser and system-wide, but it's always tough to know if these are real or just perceived
Seems to have better Gmail handling - not failing when you tap on a notification for an email you'd already archived on the desktop
A new icon for AIM
More auto-complete / auto correct entries in the dictionary.
With the slider open, the Center button now turns on the screen, where as before you had to hit a keyboard key or the power button.
It's a little finicky, but you can double-tap to start text selection in editable fields (note, however, that cursor placement in the Memos app is buggy)

Suite, synched my itunes playlist over to the pre. I love how palm did the update basically telling apple to go f-ck themselves hehe. Even copied over the album art. Phone is still performing up to expectations.
You will definitely adapt. I had a TREO for years, and this keyboard is almost like second nature.
You hooked it up to the new itunes? I've been somewhat afraid of downloading the itunes update.
All good in inglewood. Just make sure you manually sync. I selected the playlists I wanted and hit "apply" and it migrated them over to the Pre. I also chose to sync the podcasts.
Unfortunately, I don't believe you can delete individual songs/playlists from the Pre. You either have to do a "restore" which itunes did not allow me or open up Pre and delete the itunes folder which wipes all your transferred itunes music clean. Just an FYI.

So so. I was talking to my boy from Cali last night and he knew I was on speakerphone and asked me to switch. I have a cable plugging my pre into my Element so I can play itunes, if I receive an incoming call, the music is lowered and the call goes through the car speakers. In that situation, the speaker works pretty good IMO. Kind of a nifty feature. First time it happened I was like "WTF?!" LOL.
First the battery problem, then on Sunday, my phone began thinking it constantly has headphones inserted so I can only use the phone with headphones.
Went to the Sprint store yesterday, to the service center. They are not allowed to even look at the Pre's. If there is a problem, Palm sends them a new one and they have to send this one back; no matter how small the issue may be.
So...tomorrow I'm getting a new Pre

WTF? I had the headphones issue for the first time yesterday. Had to keep switching to speaker when I was receiving calls. I figured it was because I use a cable to plug the pre into my Element so I can play itunes. It ended up fixing itself. Today it's working fine.
what a PITA. New one should be here today/tomorrow.
Haven't had any recurring issues with the headphones. I use the headphones jack in my Element, including this morning, so hopefully things stay good. That little plastic clip that covers the USB jack broke off yesterday but it was a PITA to keep taking it on and off when I was charging the Pre so I didn't really mind.
I got the new Pre and it's great. Haven't had any issues. I love the Palm profile, you sign in, and all of your apps are in, your phone book, all the accounts are synced, very simple process comparing to some of the older PDA's.
I was receiving an incoming call and was not able to answer using the green touch screen icon in the lower left corner. Weird, it touched it and the whole screen went a little crazy. Had to manually slide up the phone to answer but this was an isolated incident. ??
Were you running some apps when you received the phone call?
^I've had it happen also, mostly when I was running 5+ apps at the same time. This new one hasn't had any issues at all.
I just downloaded homebrew!
Just opened my pre to 187 more applications

i am trying to justify to my wife buying it for the speaker.....
