Shock or water proof laptop

I'm doing a little research for a project at work and I have a question for all you laptop users:

Which would you rather have:

(a) a laptop that you could drop from 4 feet onto concrete with no appreciable damage

or

(b) a laptop that was waterproof so you could hold it under a running faucet and water would not penetrate the case

You can't have both. Because I said so.

Shock proof. I'm much more concerned with dropping my laptop, or having it fall off of the table, than with getting it wet.

(c) A laptop I could smash over my bosses head, that would 1) knock him out and 2) allow me to keep posting.

We actually buy the ToughBook for our GPS gas monitoring units for the customers (Gov't) and sell it as a package.. I would say that is the best laptop for durable use. But I would pick waterproof..

It's for these little guys for major sporting events and other huge gatherings (Olympics, SuperBowl etc)

Of course the next question is how much weight/bulk does each on add. Forget about that for now.

Why not both??

If I had to pic one though... I'd go waterproof. Don't think I've ever dropped or really knocked a laptop... but spills happen....

I'll take waterproof. I'm much more likely to spill something on my laptop (esp. on a plane) than drop it. I'd love to be able to hold it under running water to wash it off.

I'd like a laptop that I can keep for three years without a motherboard replacement.

makes sense..

but 90 percent sure shock proof numbers will be higher than water proof.

Clean the man-sauce off your touchpad

How about one with an anti gravitational field around the keyboard that prevents little pieces of crap from getting under the keys.

Tis true... so it's not both... it's like 1 1/2

But I voted waterproof.

Def. waterproof for me. It's either in a padded case or it's on top of a table - no risk of getting jarred too much.

I picked shock proof because I always carry my laptop in my backpack. Sometimes I forget it's in there and needless to say it gets tossed around. Besides when do you go swimming with a laptop?

Shook proof is far more important, especially if you travel with it.

Water proof for me. I have 2 laptops and the CONTROL keys doesn't work on one of them because of a spill. I also have a Bluetooth Keyboard that the SHIFT keys don't work because of a beer spill.

Looks like most people would rather have shock resistance.

I wonder how much someone would be willing to pay for waterproofing, provided it did not add much bulk/weight to the machine.

I don't think there is much demand for water proofing a laptop.

Water resistance is good enough for 99% of the crowd.

If the laptop will be used under water, wieght won't be too much of a factor, as long as it isn't bouyant.

If the laptop is meant to be used under water, then a good laptop under water kit should be good enough. No need to alter the laptop, just have someone make a kit. Similar to cameras.

How about you stop wasting your time on laptop computers, stevens, and get cracking on other-part-of-the-body-top computers? Chestops (male, female versions), asstops, etc...

Waterproof. I have dropped my lattitude d600 numerous times in recent months with no damage - if it could be waterproof i'd take it.

Really, I don't care if I have either one because I always get accidental damage protection. If I drop it, crack it, pour hot chocolate over it, it would be covered no matter what. Laptops get pretty out dated after four years so before the coverage runs out I can just run it over with my car and I get the newest one available that is comparable in price as my old one and then buy another four year protection coverage which only costs couple hundred dollars.

my powerbook is waterproof.

I had 32oz of hot tea dumped into the keyboard one night while I was working away...after i let it dry for 3 days, it started back up good as new. The only thing which changed was the date and time, which was easly corrected.
