Sanyo SCP-5500

Introducing the Sanyo SCP-5500 from Sprint

Possibly one of the finest PCS phones on the market today, in my opinion a work of art. Available only from Sprint, an exclusive. My personal favourite, I generally don’t announce every phone from Sprint, but this one is unique. Here’s ten reasons why:

1. Speakerphone. Probably the finest speakerphone on the market.
2. Picture and Video capability. It’s a camera phone with a flash AND it takes 15-second video clips that you can send and share with anyone. Digital zoom lens.
3. Ready Link capable. PTT on Sprint, it’s awesome. Check the newsgroups.
4. Full PCS Vision capability (download games, ringers, screensavers) including MobiTV, TV on your phone.
5. Dual-band/tri-mode using the latest Qualcomm chipset. Meaning it will work on all Sprint networks, all Verizon networks (because we have roaming agreements), and analog roaming. No other CDMA phone on the market today has a better radio inside.
6. Call Screening: An answering machine built into your phone, standard.
7. Multi-colour LED: External light flashes and blinks in six different colours. It’s cool anyway.
8. Voice dialing.
9. Two-way SMS. Already built into the phone, ready and waiting for the Sprint network launch.
10. Finally, it has area code caller id. I came up with this one myself. During both incoming and outgoing calls, if there is no phonebook match, the STATE will be displayed (eg 858-555-1212 (California)). Great for those who get long-distance calls all the time, I included every area code today and all the one’s assigned for the next year.

What is doesn’t have that I wish: Bluetooth, animated caller ID, multi-shot camera, streaming video, radio/MP3 capability, SD card slot. Take a sneak peek at it here, not quite fully up on sprintpcs.com; you should know the colour is navy blue but later it will also come in a two-tone silver and gray. $379 before rebates. Thanks for looking.

i played with that phone this weekend. Great phone, and i saw the tv service that sprint has. IMO, its useless, frames were so slow, its like watching moving pictures. But its a great idea though, in time, it'll be great.

The frames are a bit slow but it's great when you travelling away from home to just see what's happening (like a map or a graph) but the audio is pretty smooth.

It's out NOW. Check online at sprintpcs.com or at your finer retail locations (Sprint store, Best Buy, Radio Shack).

If i am eligible for the sprint rebate as I have had the same phone for over 18 months, can I get one of these on Ebay to save money and then mail in the sprint rebate? If I did that, i would be able to get this for around $160, not bad in my book

Anyone done this yet? Obviously the phone will be new in box and I take it to the sprint store to activate

You cannot get a rebate unless you have a receipt and UPC.

All Sprint phones will roam on Verizon towers and all Verizon phones will roam on Sprint towers if 1) Sprint and Verizon have roaming agreements in your area and 2) if you set your phone to allow it to roam when needed.
