Quick Apple Question

I have a MBP and apparently fucked up the Boot Camp partition so now if I try to install XP on that side it tells me no. Another thing is it is still booting into Vista but I uninstalled vista using Bootcamp so there is nothing there to boot too. So now when I restart my computer I have to hold down Alt and choose OSX even though that's the only one there. It is telling me to back up my files and reformat the drive.

My question is can I use Time Machine as a backup? If I reformat then hook up my external time machine drive will it restore everything?

Boot into OSx:
1. Open System Preferences
2. Choose Startup Disk
3. Highlight Mac OSx
4. Close Window

I had my XP BC partition get corrupted on me when I tried installing parallels.

One thing you can do is simply delete the partition completely by logging into OSX, but set the OSX partition as the boot partition first.

Then, go through the process of recreating the partition and re-install vista or xp.

I did what posts 4 and 6 told me too and now my computer is fuxored!

I changed the boot to check the apple side first and while restarting it I saw I had a security update so why the heck not?! I restart, it is installing the update then the light blue screen comes up and has the little circle spinning. This goes on for a hour so I say fuck it and hard reset it.

Now the bullshit won't turn on!

Ok well it turns on, makes the stupid apple noise, the keyboard lights up, hard drive spins, it will take disks...BUT the screen is black and the apple logo isn't lighting up!!!

I tried attaching an external screen, nothing! I tried typing in my username and password JUST in case it was booting up normally but the screen was off...nothing.

I tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding down the power button.

I tried Ctrl+Option+P+R and turning it on...nothing

I tried CTRL+Command+Power button and it makes 2 loud beeps then NOTHING!!!!

Tried with boot disk! Nothing!

I really don't want to take it to apple since I don't like people touching my computer plus I am outside my one year warranty, any ideas?

DAMN one of these update from apple is fucking everything up. YOu just described the problem that sly raskal just started having and my dad had a similar problem with his macbook after installing an update.

It never gets to the login prompt. I've tried resetting my password, resetting ACL's. Nothing fixed it. Looks like I gotta re-install leopard.

My question to you guys: Have any of you guys re-installed leopard while keeping your Windows partition intact? I don't want to have to reinstall XP again. I've heard it works, just want to see if any of you have done it because I don't know if the windows partition will show up in the boot camp utility in OS X after I reinstall.

One of the things they did was reinstall an update. Also he said that he had to reinstall or at least re enter his product key for iWork cause it was back to the demo version after they fixed it.

The bolded text is the same problem I'm having right now and it occured after I did the security update too!

Mine isn't as bad of a situation as yours though.

I have decided to sell this when it comes back (I wonder how much it would sell for, hmmm bought it July 2007 15.4 inch base santa rosa) and build a sweet ass hackintosh. If it had apple care warranty I would be fine with it but it doesnt and shit happens but at least with a PC desktop I know how to fix it myself for cheap as shit. I still like apple though and one day, probably next year, will pick up a smaller macbook or macbook air with an apple care warranty. But for now I'll stick with a PC

Ok I have another question. I did some research and my macbook showed signs of Nvidia Failure. Seen here...
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
It booted and the noise came on but remember how I told you it boots into the windows partition that's not there? Well I am wondering if when they did the test it booted into the windows partition.

The thing was they said they did a test by plugging in a 250gb and waited for the led light on the open lid switch to tell them if it was the Nvidia.

Can you boot from CD? If you hold down the alt key at boot up what happens when you choose OS X?

I called apple support with that forum link and the guy was like yeah 95% chance that its your graphics card and it will be free. He added that if anything was wrong with my logic board they would have to replace it. How could a motherboard go bad after 15 months?! Makes no sense! If it did then Apple is Crapple. My other laptops have been through hell and back, this one I baby and it craps out...how dare it!

So to end this story Apple fixed it for free even though it was out of warranty.
I am still going to sell it since I want the new one. So if I can sell it for $1000-$1200 I'll be a happy camper! Then next paycheck go pick up a new one with a student discount.

Do they actually check if you are enrolled? I still have my brand spanking new ID from college I got a week before I left for this very reason
