Question on the old HP4 laser printer...

I am looking at picking up a used 1 this weekend. Anyone know where on that printer is the amount of copies it has printed? The guy selling it says he it is only on the 2nd toner and he is the original owner. Just want to make sure I do not get shafted.

Thanks.

The total pages printed appears on the configuration print-out. I can't recall the specific instructions to print it out, but it should appear on one of the sub-menus.

On the HP 4000, you hit the Menu button, select the Information Menu, then if you scroll through the sub-menu there's an option to print configuration, and the print out contains Page Count.

I recall there was a similar function on the 4, but can't recall the sequence in the Menu system.

You should be able to go into the menu and find the configuration page. The page count will be there. BTW, the HP4 is a solid workhorse. We still have some around in our company.

print configuration should be under the configuration menu. Hit the menu button and I believe it's the second choice (been awhile since I worked on one). Be aware the toner is easy to get, but if your fuser gets hosed, finding one could be a problem.

I remember acceptable print duty being around 100000/month. We had 4 in our accounting department that had 600000-800000 pages and they were still going strong when they were replaced with faster units. I think the fuser rollers needed to be replaced once or twice with that much workload.

Point being. Dont labor too much over how much the thing has been used. They are good for it.

PS. Yes, our accounting dept has a goal of wiping out an acre of rainforest each year.

Thanks guys.

I guess the guy doesn't print very often.

Menu -> Test Menu -> Self Test, then press Enter.

We have a bunch of these in my office. Rugged as hell. Easy to get parts for, but I don't worry about that because they never break. Their insides are made of metal, so they last forever.
