hey all!!

i'm having some problems with my Sony DVD/VCR combo drives...at this point, i've gone through 2 players within 2 years (Sony SLV-D500P & SLV-D550P), both of them skipping on selected DVD's, old and new...i'm convinced it's b/c my apartment gets very dusty, and DVD cleaners don't do jack either

Sony is now offering a new SLV-D560P combo player that J&R retails for $120, or i could go to the next level and get the RDR-VX515, which is a DVD recorder/VCR combo player, which i found for $270 after rebate (Sony retails for $350 after rebate)...Circuit City's got it for $350 also, but i think i can talk them down to the J&R price, which would be awesome b/c i can then grab the City Advantage warranty plan that has been a blessing for my Grand Wega recently

i honestly don't know if the extra $150 is going to mean i'm going to have less skipping problems, but i guess having an extended warranty would help in this situation

any thoughts/comments??

 

I know that the Sony DVD player I had did not always like to play the DVD's I made of photos using ProShowGold. Tried different brands, +, -, different speeds and never figured out what was wrong. Got a new Yamaha player and everything now plays perfectly. IMHo Sony DVD players suck! Does not help you though as Yamaha does not make a combo unit as far as I know. You might take a look at this Samsung. I have a friend who has been very happy with it.
