Whenever I double click on internet explorer, the window opens up then immediately closes. The same thing happens with the control panel. I open it up then it closes automatically. How do I fix this problem? Please help. THanks

What is your windows version? Do you have multiple operating systems?


Can you browse through files on your computer?

 

pop up blocker?

 

I have seen that with the "explorer.exe" errors. You got to check for viruses. Use the McAfee Stinger.exe application. Its free from their website. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

After that you might have to do an "upgrade” to your WIN2000 OS. Don’t need to do a clean install. And make sure you install service pack 4.

 

have you recently downloaded SP2? i had that problem right after DLing it.

If you are running either Windows 2000 or Windows XP, then first boot into safe mode. Once in Safe mode do a virus scan. If there is no virus found, then it might be a spyware related issue. See if Control Panel will open in Safe Mode. If so click on the Internet Options icon from within control panel.

Click on the Advanced tab, then uncheck the option to enable 3rd party browser extentions. This should allow Internet Explorer to open. If it does then download, install and run either Ad Aware or Spybot Search & Destroy(version 1.3).
