Palm TX (review)
Palm TX (review)
All,
My GF was nice enough to spring for a Palm TX. It's a nice Christmas present and I was a little surprised she got it for me. I've been using my Palm m505 for the past 3 years (first color Palm!) and she was kinda sick of me using it (I don't know why ... works fine for my purposes).
I wasn't looking for a smart phone / PDA combo device since the phone plans in Canada are absolutely ridiculous. I did look into getting an unlocked Treo 650 but it ended up not working out.
So far, I've only played around with it. I do like how sharp the screen is. It's got the same functionality of the T5 (you can change from portrait to landscape mode). All the programs run fairly quickly (relative to my m505 -- haven't tested a T5). Yet to try the wi-fi feature (probably the best part of this Palm) so I can't say how well it surfs the web or how much it drains the battery. There is also Bluetooth funcationality but why would I use that when I have wi-fi at home? I guess I could try to use 'net surfing via dial-up through my RAZR but I have no interest in that.
Will tell you more when I try out more things. So far, I like how it looks, how fast it does the apps I run.

Did it come wth a docking station?
I bought a T5 last summer and it included a charging/sync cord, but no docking station. I had to buy one last night for an additional $50..
Palm should get on the ball and include a docking station with all pda's. My old PDA (go ahead and laugh) was a Palm IIIe (one of the first Palms). That cheapo pda came with a docking station, but my nicer T5 doesn't.. Seems backwards to me..

They don't include docks anymore because they cost money. Don't expect to ever see an included dock again.
I have a TX and its OK. I use the wifi to hotsync which is pretty cool because sometimes I get to the car before I remember I didn't hotsync something I entered on the PC. I can hotsync while I'm warming up the car and programming the navi. The bluetooth does work to get online via my Motorola phone on Verizon but its really slow even though its supposed to be around 100kbit. The only problem I've had is with the digitizer. Sometimes I'm trying to make a letter and the line it draws as I write freaks out like a bad optical mouse and I get garbage.

just curious if this would work with the TX, cause im thinking of picking up a TX and id like to be able to use it as a GPS unit as well.

palmOne™ GPS Navigator
picked up one of these, seems pretty sweet has alot more features than my old sony clie pegt665c that i had before then. only problem i have right now is that whenever i try to add a note to a repeated event the event for that day disappears
There's a security update on the palm website.
That's weird about the event going missing on the day you enter it. I program people's birthdays so I don't forget. It still works the same as the old Palm m505 I used previously.
Playing around with it some more ... I do like the battery life on this thing. Mind you, I keep the wi-fi off unless I want to use 'net access. Would recommend this over any other Palm product, unless you NEED power apps, then the T5 is more for you. That Life drive is absolutely a waste (IMHO).
I'm just waiting for more smart phones to come out. The Treo 650 doesn't look too bad but it's silly how the cellular and wi-fi cannot be run at the same time.
BTW, have you tried the GPS on it? I would think it would work well on the TX ...
